On Tuesday, April 9, the Board of Education will have a preliminary discussion of a healthy school start time. The reality is that the 7:40 a.m. DHS start time trails the national average of 8:04 a.m., as well as our peers in Greenwich, New Canaan, Westport, and Wilton, among others. These towns saw the science and took action to prioritize the health and well-being of their teens, some as many as 20 years ago.

Vincenzo Gentile, a longtime Darien resident, passed away peacefully at his home on March 26, 2024. He was 96.
This is your chance to avoid hauling heavy junk to the town dump: Schedule a pickup of large items with the town Department of Public Works for a Tuesday or Wednesday from April 2 to June 12, the DPW has announced.
The pickup service is free for those with homes on public streets, with the exception of refrigerators, air conditioners or dehumidifiers — for each one you’ll have to buy a $15 sticker.

Carjacking robbers approached drivers at rest stops on Interstate 95 early Wednesday morning, starting at the one in Darien and continuing to rest stops in Milford, state police said in a news release.

The keynote speaker will be Michelle Horton, whose journey into advocacy for domestic violence victims when her sister, Nikki Addimondo, was incarcerated and initially sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for defending herself against her abuser.
Addimondo’s sentence was later reduced, and she was released in January, after an appeals court said she proved her claims of abuse.

Kenneth “Obie” Harrington-Howes, 69, died on March 16, 2024 in Portland, Maine.
Having suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) nearly 27 years ago, Obie lived a life of tremendous strength and dignity. With humor, grit, and desire to help others, he brought hope and warmth to hundreds with SCIs. He was amazing to the end as he also dealt with lung cancer and congestive heart failure.
