Two young Stamford men driving on the Post Road were racing with each other, at least one witness told police shortly before 7:23 p.m. The cars hit each other, and one ended up in the parking area of a multifamily house, where it struck three parked vehicles, police said.
Darien police gave this account of the incident, including accusations not proven in court:
The incident happened on Friday, May 17 on the Post Road near Hillside Avenue.
When police looked at the cars being driven by the men, they saw damage on the left side of one vehicle and on the right side of the other. The car that did not go into the parking area was found on the side of the Post Road.
Video recordings in the area showed both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed and both losing control before crashing. Both operators were arrested.
The police announcement did not say whether either was injured in the incident, but the announcement didn’t indicate either was taken to a hospital or received first aid on the scene.
The two drivers, Jonathan Blanco, 24, and Angel Marroquin, 18, were each charged with reckless driving.
Marroquin, of Adams Avenue, also was charged with driving without a license and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was released after paying ($70) 7% of his $1,000 bond. Blanco was released after paying 7% ($105) of his $1,500 bond.
Both are scheduled to appear May 31 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
