Get your household hazardous waste away from your kids, your pets, your absent-minded spouse and yourself at any of the nearby household hazardous waste drop-off days coming up, starting with Westport’s on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Greenwich is next on May 10; Darien on June 7. Stamford and Norwalk come next, then New Canaan, on Sept. 27 — the final collection day this year. (All of these towns have a mutual pact accepting household waste from the other towns on the list.)
This year, Darien will exchange your mercury thermometer for a new thermometer — but only while replacement supplies last.

Dropping off the waste won’t personally cost you anything, but it will cost the town, which is billed by the carload, so town officials hope you’ll fully load your vehicle, and they suggest you coordinate with neighbors.
Paint won’t be accepted at this event — the town accepts paint at the Darien transfer station/recycling center on Leroy Avenue.
Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc. is operating the collection for the town. It reserves the right to refuse unidentified waste or “large amounts” of waste. If you have quantities over 25 gallons or have any other questions, call the Darien DPW at 203-656-7346.
Here are more details and lists of what to bring or not bring. The full DPW announcement is here (go to other town websites for their drop-off details):
