June Elizabeth Roberts, 96, of Stamford went home to her Lord and God on March 18, 2025. She passed peacefully after several years of failing health.

June Roberts, 96, passed away on March 18. A date has not been set for her funeral.
Born June 21, 1928, in South China, Maine to George E. and Mary E. (Huston) Roberts, she was the second of three daughters. Her sisters, Mary Carolyn (Roberts) Chenowith and Helen Lane (Roberts) Moger, predeceased her.
June graduated from the Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville, Maine and proceeded to Boston University to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music education. Later she attended the University of Connecticut where she earned her Master of Arts Degree in music history and then the University of Bridgeport for additional studies in elementary music education.
June began her professional music education career in the Barre, Vermont school system. She then relocated to the Darien school system where she taught elementary music for another 30 years, until her retirement. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society — a worldwide organization of women in education who lead and impact.
Her love of music extended beyond the classroom to church choirs and community groups. She was a member of the Waterbury, Vermont Choral Society and Greenwich Choral Society. At St. John Basilica in Stamford she was a choir member, cantor, and lector.
She is survived by many devoted friends; and a family of nieces, a nephew, and several grand nieces and nephews. The surviving family is especially grateful and indebted to Dorothy O’Grady and Judy Ahearn for assisting June as she transitioned from independent living to assisted living and, finally, hospice.
A private memorial service will be held at a time yet to be determined. Interment will be completed at the Lakeview Cemetery, alongside the Roberts Homestead in South China, Maine.
In lieu of gifting flowers, please consider a donation to St. John Basilica Building Fund, in June’s name, at 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT 06901.
