Ring’s End Inc. Board Chairman Douglas Campbell Passes Away in Florida

Douglas Campbell, a former member of the Darien Police Commission and chairman of the board at Ring’s End Inc., passed away Monday morning at his home in Sanibel, Florida, the company said in a brief announcement. First Selectman Jayme Stevenson noted his passing at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting. Campbell started at Ring’s End, headquartered on West Avenue, 63 years ago, in 1955. At Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Stevenson said:

“I would like to sadly announce that former police commissioner and long-time resident and business owner Doug Campbell passed away, unfortunately. “He lived a great life; he was 90 years old; and I’m sure we’ll find out what […] services may be planned for him, but if you know his family, either Nancy Herling or any of the Campbell family, please extend your condolences.”

Sharon (Shari) Kay Gibson, 72, a beloved grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Darien on Dec. 8, 2018 surrounded by loved ones after a four-week battle with cancer. The daughter of Samuel and Florence (Wickwire) Gibson and the second oldest of four daughters, she lived her early years on the family farm in Fullerton, North Dakota. After graduating from Fullerton High School in 1965, she attended Joseph’s School of Hair Design in Fargo, North Dakota. She worked in the industry for several years before returning to Joseph’s as an instructor.

Elizabeth (Wisty) DeCoster Moseley of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, died at the age of 92, Nov. 30 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and leaves behind daughters Christine Moseley Milloff (husband Mark) and Lisa Cole Moseley, and son Peter Livingston Moseley (wife Lisa). Her husband of 67 years, Thomas Clark Moseley, Sr., passed away just 2 months ago.

George William Lohr, Jr., 83 of Landrum, South Carolina, previously of Darien, passed away peacefully at his home Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. Born in Buffalo, New York on Feb. 23, 1935, Mr. Lohr was the husband of Donna M. Lohr. He was the son of the late George William Lohr, Sr. and Cecile Emilia Lohr, of East Aurora, New York.

Jeanne Theresa Ladue, 90, died Nov. 8 at Wake Robin nursing home in Shelburne, Vermont, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Ladue was born on Sept. 5, 1928 in Maracaibo, Venezuela, the daughter of Richard Gordon Bennett and Carmen Theresa Dalla Costa Bennett. She lived in Venezuela, England and Trinidad and graduated from the Loretto Academy in Niagara Falls, Canada.

Joan Marie Comerford, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Maplewood of Darien, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on July 26, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Stanley and Stella Sokolowski of Ozone Park, Queens. After graduating from St. Joseph’s College for Women, in Brooklyn, New York in 1954, she was named a Fulbright Scholar and studied in Cologne, Germany from 1954-1955.
