Doreen Mortola LeMoult passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2018, surrounded by family, at her home in Darien. She was 75.

She was born March 29, 1943 in Brooklyn, New York. Doreen was the daughter of Dr. Doris S. Mortola of Rye, New York, and the late Dr. Edward J. Mortola, former president and chancellor of Pace University in New York.

Doreen attended St. Augustine’s School in Larchmont, New York; School of the Holy Child in Rye; Rosemont College in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, where she received a bachelor’s degree in art; and Montclair State College in Montclair, New Jersey, where she received a master’s degree in educational psychology.

She married Michael A. LeMoult, her husband of over 51 years, in September 1967.

Doreen spent most of her career in magazine editing, including at Chemical Week and Family Circle, and worked in public relations for White Plains Hospital and various schools. She also did consulting work for a number of companies.

She was an elder at the Noroton Presbyterian Church, and it was her faith and her deep love for her family and many friends that gave her the strength to overcome numerous health challenges over the years.

In addition to her husband, Michael, she is survived by her mother, Dr. Doris Mortola, and her sister, Elaine Mortola Clark, both of Rye; her son, Eric, and his wife, Kim of Alexandria, Virginia; and her son, Craig, and his wife, Julia, of Newton, Massachusetts.

Her family is eternally grateful for the loving care of Sheffield Powell-Campbell, Doreen’s caretaker and friend.

A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate her life will be held in the spring at the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien.
