George William Lohr, Jr., 83 of Landrum, South Carolina, previously of Darien, passed away peacefully at his home Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22.

Born in Buffalo, New York on Feb. 23, 1935, Mr. Lohr was the husband of Donna M. Lohr.

He was the son of the late George William Lohr, Sr. and Cecile Emilia Lohr, of East Aurora, New York.

Mr. Lohr was a graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania earning a degree in engineering and a commission as a first lieutenant in the Army.

He then went on to work for the IBM Corporation for over 30 years, while at the same time serving in the Army Reserves, until he was honorably discharged at the rank of captain.

Throughout his lifetime Mr. Lohr enjoyed the love of travel, good food and wine, the company of friends and family and most passionately the game of golf.

His first wife was Christina Vedder Lohr, who predeceased him on July 5, 1997. Thyrza Lohr DiModugno of Ridgewood, New Jersey, his first daughter and sister to Bill and Christina, predeceased him on Nov. 21, 2011.

In addition to Donna, his wife of the last 18 years, Mr. Lohr is survived by his two children: George William Lohr, III (Bill) of Danville, California, Christina Lohr Ablon of Wellesley, Massachusetts; and collectively his 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at St. Lukes Parish in Darien.

A second service will be held at The Cliffs on Glassy Mountain, South Carolina on Feb. 23, 2019, which would have been Mr. Lohrs 84th birthday.
