Richard Van Arnam Huie, age 85, of Branford died on Wednesday, Aug.ust 12, 2020 at The Hearth in Branford. Richard and his twin brother, David, were born in Greenwich on July 5, 1935, the sons of Janet (Lockwood) Huie and Albert Van Arnam Huie. In 1937 Richard moved to Great Neck, New York and then in 1941 to Hinsdale, New Hampshire, where he attended the Bridge Street School. In the summer of 1943 he moved to Northford, finishing his grammar school education there. He graduated from the Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford in 1953.

On Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, Charles Thomas Nedder of Darien, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 77 after a long battle with Lymphoma. Charles was born on March 16, 1943 in Boston to Ernest and Mary Nedder. As a child, growing up in West Roxbury, Massachusetts with his six siblings, he had a reputation for kindness, support and a quiet strength. He accumulated many accolades as a student and football player at Cathedral High School, Boston.

Alice Marie (Garrity) Pinney passed away peacefully on June 25 at Langdon Place of Dover, New Hampshire, after spending her lifetime loving others. Throughout her life, she led her family with kindness and compassion. Alice created an atmosphere of warmth and care around her by always appreciating others for their best qualities. Born May 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late James and Veronica (McNamara) Garrity. She was raised in Stamford and Darien.

James Lewis Kelsey of Exeter, New Hampshire, beloved father, grandfather and devoted husband, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2020 at Norwalk Hospital,  following cardiac arrest. He was 79. The son of the late B. Lynne Kelsey and Doris Lewis Kelsey, Jim was born April 28, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, New York. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1964 with a degree in liberal arts and received his MBA from the University of Connecticut. He met his wife Chris at Syracuse, and together they raised their family in Darien.

Barbara Virginia Doyle McMahon, 91, of Essex, died July 15, 2020. She was a former resident of Old Lyme and Darien. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Frank and Virginia Doyle. She was a graduate of the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights and Smith College. Immediately after graduating from Smith, she married James McMahon of Brooklyn, whom she had met at dancing school.

Robert Lovegrove passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2020. Born in Flint, Michigan Oct. 16, 1934 to George Roy Lovegrove and Marie (Long) Lovegrove. As a teenager, he worked on a farm and the assembly line for trucks at General Motors. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1959 where he received the “Intern of the Year” award the following year.

Beverly Covert, 91, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, formerly of Rindge, New Hampshire and Darien, died peacefully on July 17, 2020 following a brief illness. She was 91. Beverly was born on Feb. 21, 1929 in Richmond, Indiana.  She grew up in Richmond,  and New Paris, Ohio.  She attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After college, she moved to New York City to work at Price Waterhouse.  It was there that she met her future husband, Theodore Covert (1930-2018).  They were married in 1960 and settled in Darien, where they raised their family.

Priscilla E. Gerbasi, a resident of Fairfield and previously a longtime resident of Westport and Darien, passed away on Tuesday, July 7 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Stamford on July 14, 1935, she was the daughter of Joseph G. Lupinacci and Yolanda V. Lupinacci of Darien. Priscilla was raised in Stamford and Darien, and graduated from Stamford High School. She was the oldest of four sisters and raised her family in Darien with her husband John P. Gerbasi. She volunteered at her two sons’ schools and in their sports activities over the years in Darien, and worked successfully in several positions in program management for the Baldridge Reading Group in Greenwich and Beldoch Industries in Norwalk.

Susan Widmann Sinclair, 88, passed away at her home in Darien on July 5, 2020. She was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1932, and her family moved to Darien two years later. After attending Hindley School and the Thomas School in Rowayton she earned a teaching degree at the National College of Education in Chicago. Upon graduation, she taught kindergarten at the Henry Street Settlement in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and later at the Brunswick School in Greenwich. While raising her own family in Darien, she spent many years volunteering in the town’s public school libraries.

He was was born on Jan. 4, 1963 in Darien to the late Warren Gair MacKenzie and the late Phoebe Connor MacKenzie. Don was educated at Principia High School in St. Louis and Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

Norman Arthur Pierce of Darien passed away of natural causes on July 1, 2020. He was 85. Born Jan. 1, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Arthur and Mary Pierce, Norman was a longtime resident of Darien after moving to Connecticut in the early 1950s. After graduating from the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, Norman earned his high school diploma from Darien High School in 1957.

Charles Ferris “Chick” Scribner, a lifelong resident of Darien, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 27. He was 96. Born March 14, 1924 in Darien, he was the son of the late Harold Blaine and Alice Lee Scribner. Chick attended Darien Public Schools and graduated from Darien High School in 1942. He then served for three years in the U.S. Army in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II.
