For one night only, Saturday, Feb. 8, you can have a “South Pacific”-themed dinner and a concert along with an IMAX movie in Norwalk. The “midwinter tropical escape” has three parts:

The highlight is a concert with Broadway actors and Norwalk Symphony Orchestra performing songs from the musical “South Pacific”; also, a prix fixe dinner at one of several Norwalk restaurants; and before all that, an IMAX movie at the Maritime Aquarium, “Journey to the South Pacific” will be presented twice in the afternoon. Norwalk Symphony Orchestra is producing the famed Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, “South Pacific,” for one night only in a unique collaboration with actors and singers of New Paradigm Theatre of Stamford. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Norwalk City Hall’s Concert Hall.

The Silvermine School of Art ceramics studio has added a soda kiln built by an internationally-known ceramicist, author, and teacher. — an announcement from Silvermine Arts Center

The kiln had its first firing this week, and will make way for new workshops and courses in Silvermine’s ceramics department. The kiln is a significant enhancement for Silvermine’s program; before its completion, the nearest soda kiln in a community art center was two hours away. Silvermine School of Art offers a wide variety of ceramics classes, and spring workshops and courses will begin in April. “We were delighted to have Bruce Dehnert as kiln builder,” said Anne Connell, Director of the Silvermine School of Art, and we are extremely grateful to the Silvermine students and faculty members whose generous donations, matched by Silvermine Arts Center, made the kiln project possible.”

Jon Puzzuoli, Silvermine head of ceramics, teacher, and board member, worked directly with Dehnert over a 3-year period.

ECCB presents ballets that push the physical and artistic boundaries of contemporary dance, seeking to reach a diverse audience and to fill a void as a continually active and innovative contemporary ballet company. The evening of contemporary dance will feature four original works produced by the groundbreaking non-profit. A wine reception and meet and greet will follow the performance.

The documentary “The Devil We Know,” about allegations of health hazards from Teflon, and the DuPont corporation’s possible responsibility, will be shown Thursday night, Jan. 30, at Darien Library, followed by a discussion. The entire event takes place fro 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Room. It is sponsored by both Darien Library and the Darien Pollinator Pathway. From Darien Library’s announcement:

Totally produced by DAC dance students, ages 10 to 18, the show returns to the DAC Weatherstone Studio with performances on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.

Eighteen DAC student choreographers with 40 dancers, manage all stages of creation and execution, and choreograph and perform approximately 18 dances that encompass many different styles of dance. The DAC dance program is proud to provide this one of kind opportunity for students to produce a show from start to finish.
