A vehicle that was stopped but still running and with the gear in drive had an intoxicated driver asleep behind the wheel, Darien police said.
Police gave this further account, including accusations not proven in court:
Police responded at 2:31 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 24 to a report of the stopped vehicle at 2:31 a.m. at or near the intersection of Hollow Tree Road and Ox Ridge Lane.
The man in the driver’s seat, a 44-year-old resident of Carroll Street in the Springdale section of Stamford, showed signs of impairment. He couldn’t adequately complete standardized field sobriety tests, so he was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
At Darien Police Headquarters, breath tests showed blood-alcohol content at 0.1564 for the first test and 0.1476 for the second — close to twice the legal limit.
The man was released on a $300 bond and told to appear Sept. 12 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
