Darien police are using video surveillance recordings in an attempt to identify a team of thieves who stole a purse from a customer at a supermarket.
By the time the victim called credit card companies to cancel the cards, two attempts to use them had already been made, police said.
Darien police gave this further account:
On Thursday, July 13, the victim was shopping when a woman approached her, saying she was having problems reading a label. The thief asked the victim if she had eyeglasses she could use, and the victim unzipped her purse to get a pair, then forgot to zip the purse back up.
Video surveillance recordings showed two females and a male working together. The wallet was stolen when the victim walked away from her shopping cart. The male suspect stood near the cart while the female suspect who had earlier asked for help took the wallet from the purse.
When the victim went to the cash register, she found that her wallet was missing.
The two attempts to use credit cards from the wallet were made at Best Buy in Norwalk.
Police were called to the scene at 6:28 p.m. They are continuing to investigate.
