Promotions for Three Announced by Darien Police Department

Three Darien police officers are being promoted in rank, Police Chief Donald Anderson announced Monday:

Field Services Sgt. Alison Hudyma to the rank of lieutenant
Youth Detective James Palmieri to the rank of sergeant
Training Lt. Robert Shreders to captain

“Please join me in congratulating our officers who are receiving these well-deserved promotions,” Anderson said in a news release. “History has shown, time and time again, that achieving promotion in our agency is always the result of a highly competitive process among many quality candidates.” The promotions take effect Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Darien Police Officer Schwengerer has been selected as the Police Department’s first school resource officer (SRO) for Middlesex Middle School. Over the summer Schwengerer will be attending training through the National Association of School Resource Officers.  He will begin his assignment at Middlesex Middle School in late August. “The Darien Police Commission and I are very pleased with the selection of Officer Stu Schwengerer as the first SRO at Middlesex Middle School,” Police Chief Raymond Osborne said in a news release. “His previous training and experience, along with his positive attitude, make him a great choice for this position and I am excited to endorse him.”
Schwengerer has 18 years of law enforcement experience, most of which have been with the Darien police. Previously assigned to the Patrol Division, Schwengerer served in the United States Marine Corps and has an associate’s degree from Gateway Community College in New Haven.

Darien police welcomed Bryce Brown as a probationary police officer and the department’s newest member on Monday. The new officer is a former high school-level teacher and police officer. A former member of the Bethel Police Department, Brown graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy a year ago, in June 2018. Shortly after 3 p.m. in a small ceremony on Monday, Police Commissioner Kim Huffard and Chief Ray Osborne swore in Bryce Brown as a probationary police officer. Since Brown already had the necessary training and certification as a police officer, he will undergo a modified field training program and is expected to be ready to begin patrol on his own in a matter of weeks.

The Darien Police Commission is pleased to announce that Captain Donald Anderson will be taking over as the Darien Police Department’s eleventh chief of police. Capt. Anderson will assume command of the department upon the retirement of Chief Ray Osborne at the end of the summer. — an announcement from Darien Police Department

Captain Anderson has been a member of the Darien Police Department since 1983, and currently holds the position of captain of the Administrative Services Bureau. Anderson was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1999, lieutenant in 2000, and to his current rank of Captain in 2013. He has also served as a member of the Detective Division and as a member of the Specialized Accident Investigation Team.

The United States Attorney’s Office has selected Darien Police Detective Elizabeth DiIorio to receive the 2019 US Attorney’s Award for her outstanding contributions to United States v. Vanessa Vence-Small. — an announcement from Darien Police Department

The investigation in to Vence-Small began in the Summer of 2017 when BMW of Darien provided information to Det. DiIorio that indicated that an employee was embezzling funds from the company. While working as BMW’s financial controller, it was discovered that Vence-Small had embezzled $1.1 million from the dealership in just three years. Due to the significant amount involved, the investigation reached the federal level and the United States Secret Service and the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force were brought on board.

Darien Police Department Promotes Sergeant to Rank of Lieutenant, Two Officers to Sergeant

The Darien Police Commission and Police Chief Ray Osborne are pleased to announce the promotion of the following three officers who were selected for their respective positions on Wednesday, May 29:

Sgt. Nick Aranzullo was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Aranzullo started with the department in 2005. In 2009, Aranzullo assisted with the implementation of the K-9 program, ultimately forming the department’s first K-9 unit with K-9 partner “Zulu.”

Aranzullo served in the Detective Bureau and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2017. Officer Derek Mulcahy was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Darien police Lieutenant Jeremiah Marron, a 23-year veteran of the Police Department, will become Captain Jeremiah Marron as of June 2, the department and Police Commission announced on Tuesday. Here’s the announcement:

Darien Police Chief Ray Osborne and the Darien Police Commission are proud to announce today the promotion of Lt. Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. to the rank of captain, effective June 2, 2019. Marron is a twenty-three year veteran of the Department. Graduating from the Connecticut Police Academy in 1996, Marron has served the department with distinction in both the Detective Division and Field Services as both an officer and supervisor. At this time, he is currently serving as the administrative lieutenant.

Darien Police Chief Ray Osborne, a 35-year veteran of the Darien Police Department, has announced he will retire later this year on Sept. 1. Osborne notified the Darien Police Commission and First Selectman Jayme Stevenson earlier this week. — an announcement from Darien Police Department
Osborne began his career with Darien PD in 1983 after starting his career with the Easton Police Department in 1981.  He was appointed to the Detective Division in December 1996. He was promoted to sergeant in September 2000, lieutenant in September 2008 and captain in July 2016.  Upon the retirement of Chief Duane Lovello, the Darien Police Commission named Osborne the tenth chief of police, and he was sworn into office on Feb.
