It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father, Harrington John Oberlander Jr., aka Sam and Harry. He passed away peacefully on June 22 at the age of 89. He was born Oct. 31, 1931 in Bridgeport and died 47 years and 3 days after the death of his late wife, Elizabeth Ann Ruddy, aka Sis. Harry was born to Harrington John Oberlander Sr., aka Harry, and Marjorie Josephine Ayers O. Bondi, (Frank).

Terrance (Terry) Kevin Ganser died at Yale New Haven Hospital of acute liver failure on June 29, 2021. His entire family and many friends had been in close contact with him shortly before he passed on. Born Nov. 3, 1959, Terry spent his childhood years in Annandale, Virginia; Rye, New York; and Bridgton, Maine. After graduating from Lake Region High School in Maine he became a much sought after fashion model in New York City for several years.

John Francis “Jack” McGoldrick, formerly of Darien, passed away at his home in Brevard, North Carolina, on June 28, 2021. He was 91. Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 30, 1927, he grew up in Forest Hills, New York, the son of Frank and Jean McGoldrick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, following a 65-year marriage. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in journalism, he saw active duty as an infantry officer in the 2nd Marine Division and as a public affairs officer at HQ4th MCRD in Philadelphia.

He was born July 11, 1933 to the late Fred Hirt Sr. and Helen (Murphy) Hirt in New York City. Fred lived and worked in New York City as a doorman greeting people daily making them smile and laugh with his great sense of humor. In his early years he served in the Army from 1951 to 1953.

Addison Cushman May of Warwick, New York and Stamford, passed away on June 5, in Stamford, surrounded by his family. He was 87. Born Dec. 25, 1933 in New York City to Byron B. and Martha Fay May, he was a descendant of Robert Cushman, who, with a group from London, arranged the financing for the voyage of the Mayflower to Plymouth in 1620. Growing up in Darien, Cush attended the New Canaan Country School and graduated in 1952 from the Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts.

Vera Nicolopoulos, who survived World War II in Germany, came to America in search of a better life, and raised two children as a single mother, passed away at the Lafayette Nursing Home on June 13, 2021, just short of her 92nd birthday. She was a strong and brave woman who faced adversity with determination and good humor and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was born Vera Helene Martha Thomas on June 18, 1929, the only child of Arnhold and Helene Thomas. Her father was a blacksmith who died during the war, circumstances unknown, while on medical leave in Berlin. She and her mother lived in Berlin throughout the war, surviving numerous bombing raids and the Berlin Blockade which led to severe food shortages in the city.

An award-winning educator, prized friend and co-worker, he took on diverse roles in education and in his communities and was a longtime advocate for the less fortunate. He was the husband of the late Florence Heath Silverstein for 68 years.  Born Oct. 30, 1925 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Samuel and Dora Kosofsky Silverstein.

Jeanne C. Turkel of Darien passed away on May 21, 2021 at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Virginia, from complications arising from a serious automobile accident on April 30, 2021. She was 78. Jeanne was born on Jan. 26, 1943 in Plainfield, New Jersey, daughter of the late Cecil H. Crickenberger and Helen S. Crickenberger. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1963 and went on to get an M.A. degree from Columbia University and later a degree in music from Manhattanville College.

After a year long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome and leukemia, the Rev. Beverly K. Weatherly passed into Eternal Glory on Friday, May 28, held by her children and grandchildren. Beverly was born in 1950  in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and raised outside Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University and went to work for the governor of Ohio. She moved to New York City and worked at Nestle and Shell corporations before attending Princeton Theological Seminary and General Seminary. She met her husband, John, working at a neighborhood Vacation Bible School in Trenton, New Jersey.
