Mary Helen O’Brien, 97, died peacefully on Sept. 12, in her residence at Maplewood in Darien. She was born on July 3, 1921, in Moberly, MO, the daughter of John and Margaret Tyrrell. Mary was raised in St. Louis, MO and graduated from Webster College in her home town.
Linda Saverine Santarella, 72, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away on Sept. 10. She was born Sept. 22, 1945 in Stamford to Joseph and Josephine (D’Arrigo) Saverine. Linda graduated from Darien High School in 1963.
Florence J. Bianco, 91, a lifelong resident of Darien passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 9
She was born in Darien to the late Frank and Catherine Alonzo Bianco. Florence was a graduate of Darien High School, Class of 1946. She was employed by Pitney Bowes for 43 years and enjoyed a long retirement before her recent illness. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Mary DeCarlo and Nancy Dorcey, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Justine Arata Robinson, 94, died peacefully with family and friends, on July 21. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 9, 1924, the daughter of Louis and Phyllis (Kerr) Arata, Justine spent her formative years in Old Greenwich. She graduated in 1943 from Harcum Junior College where she majored in interior design. On Sept. 11 of the same year, Justine and Sanford “Sam” Robinson, of Greenwich, Connecticut, were married.
Lois Jean Campbell, wife of Lloyd Campbell and mother of Douglas, Bruce and Vicki Campbell, passed away on Aug. 25, 2018 at Birchview in Sedro-Woolley, WA. Born in 1926 to George and Nellie Thompson, Lois spent her childhood and early years in Concrete, WA. She relocated with her parents to Seattle, where she graduated from Queen Anne High School and attended Pacific Lutheran University. She married Lloyd Campbell, originally from Rockport, WA, in September of 1944, and they moved shortly thereafter to Edmonds, WA, where they co-owned and operated the Skiff Tavern.
John H Chamberlain, 87, of Winnetka, IL passed away peacefully on Sept. 1. John was born to Henry and Mary Jo Chamberlain in Chicago on July 5, 1931. He graduated from Loyola Academy in 1949 and received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in 1953. Upon graduation from Loyola, John served his country honorably as a first lieutenant in the United States Army.
Edwin Hollis Ferree, 90, passed away on Sept. 1. Ed was born Oct. 17, 1927 in Angleton, TX, the son of Edwin Bennett Ferree and Mabel Etta Huddleston Ferree. He served in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 and 1947.
Jeffrey W. Mucciolo of White Plains passed away suddenly on Aug. 31 in Clermont, FL. Jeff attended Darien High School, graduating in 1983, then from Syracuse University, where he studied radio, television and film. Jeff was a gifted copywriter and interactive advertising expert who worked in the New York City medical advertising industry for the past 30 years. The passion he had for life came alive in his music.
Richard Ayer Kimball Sr. died on Sept. 1 at the age of 88 in Ft. Myers, FL, surrounded by his immediate family. Dick was born in Cambridge, MA in 1930, the only child of Gladys and Joseph Kimball. Like the three generations before him, he attended Andover (’48) and Yale (’52), making life-long friends.
Thomas L. Hagopian, 59, of Darien died peacefully at home on Monday, Aug. 27, following a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. A proud graduate of the University of Michigan and the Columbia University Business School, Tom was a pioneer and visionary in the digital media sector, starting with his conception and launch of the first major sports website, espn.com, and continuing into digital marketing and interactive TV with DirectTV and AT&T. He was proudest, however, to have had the opportunity to mentor and inspire others throughout his career. Tom was a lifetime sports fan, unbeatable trivia master and sportsman.
Felipe Santiago, 72, beloved husband of Fanny Villacreses Santiago of Norwalk, passed away on Aug. 31 at Bridgeport Hospital. Mr. Santiago was born on Dec. 28, 1945 in Orocovis, Puerto Rico and moved to Stamford in 1967, where he met and married his wife and started a family. In 1988, he and his family moved to Norwalk. For 30 years, Felipe worked for the Town of Darien, until he retired in 2014.
Margot Cocolis Kalaizes passed away on Sept 1. She was 90. She was born on Oct. 23, 1927 in Stamford. Margot is the daughter of the late William D. & Helen White Cocolis.
Wilson Hatchl passed away at Norwalk Hospital on Aug. 27. He was with family at the time of his passing. Wilson was born in Nacagdoches, TX on May 1, 1928 to Gussie and Harold Hatchl. He graduated from University of Houston in 1956 and received an MBA from NYU in 1971.
