Ronald Lee Lane, 67, died Nov. 18, 2021 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. He was born on July 25, 1954, in Laurel Hill, North Carolina. Ron served in the Army from 1971-1973, during which time he was stationed in Korea. He was an outdoor power equipment mechanic for years at Bianco & Gilman in Darien, both before and after his military service.
Mary Estelle Shelley Evans, 88, died Nov. 2, 2021, at her daughter’s home in Lake Helen, Florida. Mary was born March 10, 1933, in Greenwood, South Carolina, to James Hyatt Shelley and Kathleen Gribble Shelley. Mary, her twin sister Martha, and older brother James “Jimmy” grew up in Lake Helen. They were active in the Methodist church, where Mary played piano for services and special events.
Sharon Joy Workman died peacefully on Nov. 8 at her residence at the Edgehill Retirement Community in Stamford surrounded by her children. She was 91. She was born on May 20, 1930 in Louisa, Kentucky, the second child of Jessie B. Adkins and Charlie B. Workman. She was formerly married to the late Joseph P. Corsiglia, with whom she had four children: J. Patrick, Jr. (Christina) of Lake Forest, Illinois, Dr. Joan Breen (Andrew) of North Hampton, New Hampshire, James G. (Christine Gottlieb) of Brooklyn, New York, and Cynthia (Ali C. Höcek) of New York City.
Robert “Robb” Kevin Peglar, one of the world’s greatest optimists who worked as hard as he played, especially on the golf course, died on Oct. 11. He had battled cancer for seven months. Never one to pass up the opportunity to tell a great story in an animated fashion or tear up the dance floor, Robb was often the life of the party in the best of ways. His zest for life and his smile were contagious.
Betty B. Torpey, a resident of Stamford since 1976 and of Darien for 40 years prior, passed away on Nov. 10. She was 87. She was born Sept. 24, 1934 in Amsterdam, New York to Robert Harold Barrigar and Mary Elizabeth Weigand.
James Bernard Herberick of New Milford passed away on Nov. 3, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones from complications from lung cancer treatment. James (Jim) was born on Sept. 7, 1943 to Bernard and Lucy Herberick in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Jim was born on Labor Day and has been laboring ever since!
Arlene Roberta Dunn passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2021, at Providence Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo, California, surrounded by her loving husband, Thomas J. Dunn, her son, Brian T. Dunn and his love, Ambrea Tafoya, as well as her Pastor, Jim Szeyller of Laguna Niguel Presbyterian Church. She was 76. Arlene was born Sept. 28, 1945 at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, New Jersey, to her parents Gladys M. Brassel (Buchlein) and Warren Ralph Brassel.
Charlene Rae (Corbin) Holmes of Darien passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 29, 2021, with her family present and near her bedside. She was 90. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jaquelyn B. Bernard, her parents and husband David Bartlett (Joe) Holmes who died on Sept. 6, 2005.
Nancy Ann Register Perry died Nov. 5 at Sombrillo Nursing Home in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Nancy had been living with Type 1 diabetes and Alzheimer’s for the last five years and died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 78. She was born on Feb. 11, 1943 at City Hospital in Columbus, Georgia to James Willard Register and Levada Louise Riley Register.
Judith Townsend Bailey, 81, of Summerville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021. She was born March 11, 1940 in Norwalk, daughter of the late Norman Hyde Robbins and the late Marjorie Littlejohn Robbins. Judith loved her children and grandchildren and was married to Lance Bailey for 54 years prior to his passing. She was a longtime resident of Darien, a member of St.
Michele Lisa Marquet, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 in Darien. She was 63. Born July 7, 1958 in Stamford, she was the daughter of Lucille Metraux Marquet of Darien and the late William R. Marquet. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother, William R. Marquet, Jr., and his wife, Nancy, of Stamford; along with three nieces and one nephew.
Nancy J. Stoetzer died at home peacefully in Eagle, Colorado, on Oct. 19, 2021, at the age of 81. Mrs. Stoetzer had been a homemaker, a successful real estate agent, and an active volunteer and community organizer. Nancy loved spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed walking, tennis, skiing and cooking, and was well known for her many famous hors d’oeuvres.
Edward C. Bachman (Ted), a resident of Darien since 1952 and a former resident of Stamford, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at Bridge’s by Epoch in Norwalk.He was 95. Born on Sept. 23, 1926 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Edward W. and Florence Clark Bachman. Edward was a graduate of Stamford High School.
Maxwell R. McCreery of Chilmark, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Oct. 22 in his home, surrounded by his immediate family while his sister-in-law played his favorite songs on the piano in the next room. He was 83. With his booming laugh, warmth, love of life and people, Max was authentically positive. Playing golf, he’d only remembered your good shots.
Karen Peet Marr, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Oct. 13, after a brief and sudden illness. The cause of death was Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (“C J D”). She was 75. She was the daughter of Knox and Eleanor Peet of Utica, New York. She graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, New York with a degree in physical therapy. She was a Darien resident for over 40 years and worked as a physical therapist at the Stamford Hospital and the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan. She was a dedicated member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church having served as a deacon, a Stephen Minister, a wedding coordinator and on various other committees. She was active in P.E.O., a national philanthropic organization that raises scholarships for women, and served as president for several years. She is survived by John, her husband of 52 years; her daughter, Julie Monroe (Cory), of Wellesley, Massachusetts; her son, Todd Marr (Griffin), of Darien; her brother, David Peet, of Utica, New York; and her seven beloved grandchildren.
