Colin resides in Darien, is a graduate of Wittenberg University in Ohio, and is a SHRM Certified Professional though the Society of Human Resource Management. Colin brings a wealth of training and human resource management experience and a growth mindset to STAR that continues to enhance the department.

In his new position, reporting to Katie Banzhaf, Executive Director, Colin will maintain a high-performance workforce and ensure compliance with laws and regulations, while working to ensure that STAR has the best available employees to support the organizations goals and culture.

As director of human resources, Colin will support the employee management requirements of more than two hundred full and part-time employees at STAR.

Since joining STAR in 2018 as the training and recruiting coordinator, Colin has provided hundreds of new employee trainings and countless required refresher training courses for current employees.

“I am honored to be promoted and expand my role as part of the STAR team,” says Colin. “I have a strong family connection to STAR with my brother being a STAR participant. I share deep respect and admiration for the work that is done here by a dedicated and impassioned staff. I look forward to my new role and responsibilities in the human resources department to ensure the continuity of such a caring team.”

Celebrating its 70th anniversary, STAR was established in 1952 by parents who believed that children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to the same basic opportunities as other children.

Today, STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization that has grown to include an array of services for over 700 individuals with disabilities, from birth to their senior years and their families.

STAR’s mission is to create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. They inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.

Services include early intervention pediatric therapies; family support services; high school transition, job assessment and training; assistive technology evaluations, adult day services, recreation; and residential support to adults in group homes and apartments.
