Surrounded by family, Anna Bella Quigley Mazabras passed away peacefully on April 23 at her home just one day after her 80th birthday in Darien. Born on April 22, 1939 in Derry, Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Quigley. Anna left Ireland in 1963 to come to New Canaan to work as a nanny before marrying her husband, Roger Louis Mazabras in 1966. Anna and Roger moved to Darien in 1968 and were employed by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church as the sextons for almost 30 years.

Marie Core Duffy Wootton died peacefully on April 11 in New Haven. She was 98. She was born in New Haven on June 25, 1920, the daughter of Marie Marsden Barron Duffy of Baltimore, Maryland, and William Core Duffy, MD, formerly of New Bern, North Carolina. She graduated from Prospect Hill School (now Hopkins) and Albertus Magnus College. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Henry Wootton, Jr.

She and her husband lived in the New Canaan/Darien area for over 50 years.

Surrounded by family, Phyllis M. Colin, 87, succumbed to heart-related complications on April 3 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. She and her beloved husband, Robert, lived in Battery Park City in New York. They had resided in Darien from 1969 until 1994. During her years in Darien, Phyllis was very active in the YMCA, serving as a Red Cross volunteer life guard and swim teacher to both young children and adults.

Carol “Corky” Lindemann Studley, of Shalimar, Florida and East Orleans, Massachusetts passed away on April 7, 2019 at 83. Born in Warsaw, New York on July 18, 1935. She graduated from Hastings-on-Hudson High School in 1953, where as a three- sport athlete, she was inducted into The Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1957 with an education degree and was a member of Tri Delta sorority. Corky spent the summers of 1944 through 1959 at Camp Wono — now Cape Cod Sea Camps where she was a camper, counselor and head counselor.

Former Darien resident Carolyn Schoonmaker, passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida on the morning of April 2 with her two sons, Sam and Eric, by her side. In passing, she rejoins her beloved husband, Sam, who predeceased her. She is survived by two sisters, a stepsister, two sons, four grandchildren and numerous other family and friends. Carolyn was born in Englewood, New Jersey, the second daughter of Frederick and Carol Peters. A natural athlete, she grew up throwing and catching a baseball with the Yankees, who practiced in the park near her house.

Donald Paul Smith, former resident of Darien for 48 years and a town registrar of voters for 20 years, died peacefully in Maryland on April 3, 2019. Born July 24, 1930, he was husband of deceased Barbara (“Bobbie”) Smith and father of sons Don and Chris Smith of Chicago and Columbia, Maryland, both mid-1970s Darien High School graduates. He was best known for his retirement activities of founding therapy dog programs in Fairfield County to help comfort hospice and hospital patients. Manuel Joseph Perez, the beloved husband of Janet Williams Shaw, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 79. He was born on Jan. 15, 1940 in Newburgh, New York, the son of Manuel and Madeline (Paolini) Perez. As a child, Manny loved books, reading, listening to stories on the radio and watching movies, which laid the foundation for his life’s work. On a Naval ROTC scholarship, Manny graduated from the University of Rochester in 1962 with a degree in clinical psychology.
