Richard Conrad Weber, age 95, passed peacefully from this life into the next on July 22, 2019. Born in the Bronx, New York on April 28, 1924, Richard raised his family and worked in the town he loved, Darien. Richard served his country in the Army Air Forces in World War II, attending Officers Training School at Ohio State University. He then came home to start a family and worked in the family business at Christman Furniture for 42 years before retiring and moving to Roswell, Georgia with his second wife, Joan, to live out his years near his son and family. His last years were spent in assisted care in Virginia and then Wisconsin to be closer to his daughter.

Tamara Nielsen Whittier passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on July 20. She was 58. “Tami” was born on March 27, 1961 in Greenwich to the late Gerald Nielsen Sr. and Joanne Tammany Nielsen of Darien. She was a life-long resident of Darien, where she developed her love of the beach and the ocean. After attending the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich she went on to graduate from Darien High School in 1979 and attended Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts and Wesley College in Dove, Delaware.

Erin Bazner Noonan, 71, of Darien passed away peacefully at her home on July 17,  after a hard-fought battle with cervical cancer. Erin was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Natick, Massachusetts to Jean Marie and Martin William Bazner. She was the first of six children, including Martin W. Bazner III of Berkeley, California; Shaune Bazner of Washington, D.C. (John Yahner); Megan Brogden of Wilton (Marc Fogel); Jamie Bazner of Santa Cruz, California; and Brenan McGarrigle (Tom) of Norwell, Massachusetts. She lived most of the last 40 years in New Canaan and Darien raising a wonderful family and pursuing her many passions.

Nancy E. Festa, a resident of Darien, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in Darien. She was a parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking as well as spending time and sharing stories with her family and friends. Nancy is survived by her son Ronald Festa of Seymour, Tennessee and two grandchildren Cody Festa and Leah Festa and three great grandchildren.

Richard McCurdy, formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on July 5 at the age of 78. Rich was the son of Richard C. and Harriet S. McCurdy who lived on Contentment Island for over 40 years. Rich graduated from the University of Connecticut after four years of service in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician. After earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rich went to work for Kenyon Marine designing electronic instruments for sail boats. When his father became involved in the 1970 America’s Cup, Rich decided to develop a computer-based instrumentation system for one of the boats competing to defend the Cup.

William Robert Simpson, age 64, and a longtime resident of Darien, passed away on July 14, at 7:24 in the morning with his loving wife by his side. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 24, 1954 in Bronxville, New York, he was the son of the late Harold Brown and Nancy Ferns Simpson. Bill graduated from Darien High School in 1973 and Wright Technical School for Plumbing. He started Simpson Plumbing LLC in 1998.

Donna Egan, 79, passed away peacefully on July 13 at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan. Donna is the daughter of the late Victor and Dorothy “Dolly” Domikis. She grew up in Darien, then lived in Stamford, and was later a resident of Norwalk. Donna was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Stamford. Throughout her career, she worked for Pitney Bowes, Wachovia Bank, and Brinks.

Charles Sprague Simonds, 85, a resident of New Canaan, formerly of Darien, Westport, Key West, Florida, and Newport, Rhode Island, died peacefully on July 2, 2019, in New Canaan. Charlie as he was known, was born on Feb. 20, 1934 in Boston to the late Daniel Simonds and Elizabeth Sprague Simonds Stout. He was the devoted husband of Michelle R. Hubbard-Simonds of New Canaan. He was a graduate of the Brooks School in North Andover, Massachusetts and Yale University with a bachelor’s degree in art history, Class of ’60, and Harvard Business School, with an MBA in  1964.

Michael Sutherland Greene, 57, of Granger, Indiana, died in the Center for Hospice on Easter morning, April 21, 2019, after struggling for years with health problems.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 20, at St John Roman Catholic Church in Darien. He was born, in Denver on Dec. 10, 1961,  and raised in Darien by his mother, Julie Sutherland Rikert, and stepfather, John Rikert. He graduated from the University of Connecticut and worked in Washington D.C. as an economic analyst in the area of global warming, then entered law school at Indiana University in Bloomington. It is there that he met and married Bridgette Faulkner Greene, and together they moved to Elkhart, where he was a practicing attorney for many years.

Barbara Ann (Jerabek) Martin, 80, a resident of Pelican Bay in Naples, Florida passed on June 19 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was the daughter of the late John Charles Jerabek and Elizabeth Bestercy.
Barbara grew up in Stamford, where she attended Sacred Heart Academy. She then graduated Paeir School of Art in New Haven, studying interior design. She was recognized by the school’s president for her outstanding talent.

Ellen Fleming (Lynch) Lapinski of West Barnstable, Massachusetts died peacefully on June 24, 2019, at the age of 85. Born June 19, 1934 to Albert F. and Margaret Lynch, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Ronald L. Lapinski, and her brother, Albert F. Lynch Jr.

Formerly a resident of West Barnstable, Darien and Palmer Township, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Natick High School, Natick, Massachusetts in 1952, and the Katharine Gibbs School in 1953. During the Korean War, Ellen was employed by the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, where she met her beloved husband of 58 years. Ellen’s contribution to the U.S. Army was choosing the color “Army Green Shade 44” for the military in 1954. The U.S. Army, fortunately, never knew she was color-blind.

John Felton Ashton, 89, of Darien, died June 20 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Ashton was born in Bronxville, New York and for most of his adult life lived in Darien and Westport. He was the son of the late Henry Rusling Ashton and Ruth Felton, residents of Bronxville for more than 40 years. Mr. Ashton attended the Harvey School in Hawthorne, New York and in 1947 graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. He received an A.B. degree in physics from Harvard College in 1951 and a J.D. degree from Yale Law School in 1954.

Richard W. Constable, known to his many friends as Dick, died peacefully on June 15 at the age of 92. Born July 3, 1926 in New York City, he loved riding his bike out to then-rural Long Island, listening to Jack Benny on the radio, and visiting the 1939 World‘s Fair in nearby Flushing Meadows. In June 1943, Mr. Constable attended Williams College, interrupting his studies a year later to join the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Germany as a sergeant in the Military Police Platoon of the 70th Infantry Division. At the war’s end, he returned to Williams, graduating in 1948 with a B.A. in Geology.
