Darien Junior Sailing Team (DJST) is Darien’s best kept secret! There are still some spots available for this summer. The Darien Community Association (DCA) will feature a class about sparkling wines with Nicholas Roberts from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday. Join us to experience champagne alternatives that will tickle your nose, sparkle your palate and satisfy your budget. We’ll explore and taste a Prosecco, a Cava, a domestic sparkling wine, and a Crémant. And we’ll throw in the real thing, too, to completely satisfy your taste buds! Fees are $55 for DCA members and $60 for the public.

The Darien Community Association (DCA) is offering two bridge classes starting in March. Bridge Supervised Play

This will be a one day class with supervised play and hands covering the following topics: Defense, More defense, D.O.N.T., Negative Doubles, Take out Doubles, Michael’s Cue Bid, and Unusual 2 NT. Instructor Joan Bergen.

Bridge Supervised Play will be held on Tuesday, March 14th from 9:30am-11:30am. Course fees are $30, or $25 for DCA members. Prepayment is required, and registration closes on Monday, March 13.

The Darien Arts Center is happy to announce the addition of a new Visual Arts instructor, Emily Evans, who is teaching cartooning for 7-12 year olds on Mondays from 4:10-5:10 p.m. from Feb. 6 through May 22. Evans is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and draws and co-writes a monthly comic strip, Polly Tries. ___________

She has previously worked as a teaching assistant at the Bush-Holly House in Greenwich and the Silvermine Art Guild in New Canaan. In Evans’ cartooning class, students will design their own characters and learn to use one-panel cartoons and three-panel comic strips.

Learn to play American Mah Jongg and enter a fascinating world of bams, dragons and dots. Mah Jongg is an absorbing tile game of skill and chance. Over six weeks, longtime Darien resident Donna Holt will teach players the basics of understanding the tiles and current Mah Jongg card, and how to select and strengthen a winning hand. Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Prevention Class Starts Jan 5

Register today for this informative course from Grace Farms Foundation and the Norwalk Police Department, designed to educate women and girls on how to protect themselves and reduce their chances of becoming victims of assault and/or domestic violence. The course — including a self-defense demonstration — will address the prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses and the impact drugs and alcohol have on student behavior. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks at the West Barn, Grace Farms in New Canaan. Admission is free, but registration is required for the five week course. REGISTER ONLINE HERE

Option One:

Mah Jongg for Beginners classes: Try this four week session with longtime Darien resident and instructor Donna Holt. Beginners will learn the basics: how to identify tiles and understand the Mah Jongg card, and how to select and strengthen a winning hand. Meet Stephanie Lush-Mastriano, a New Visual Arts Instructor at Darien Arts Center

The Darien Arts Center is happy to announce the addition of new Visual Arts instructor, Stephanie Lush-Mastriano, who is teaching Drawing and Painting for 10-15 year olds on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. from Jan. 4 through March 15. Lush-Mastriano is a ceramicist, painter, and mixed media artist originally from the Hartford area. She has taught art programs at the Hartford Academy of the Arts, The Wadsworth Atheneum, The New Britain Museum of American Art and the Westport Arts Center. She studied Fine Arts and Art Education at Manchester Community College, Connecticut Central State University in New Britain and Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.
