Artist Sam Morrow Leads Darien Arts Center Photography Class for Kids, Painting Class for Adults

Artist Sam Morrow is leading the Digital Photography class for ages 9-12, starting Friday, Oct. 5, and an Oil Painting class for adults at the Darien Arts Center, starting Oct. 10.

Morrow has taught at local art centers including Silvermine, Rowayton Arts Center, Greenwich Art Society and Ridgefield Guild of Artists, as well as at East Tennessee State University and Virginia Intermont. He has a BFA from St. Martin’s School of Art and holds two MFAs, from Royal College of Art and Ohio State University.

The Digital Photography class takes place on Fridays, from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m. and runs from Oct. 5 through Jan. 11.

Students will learn to use their digital device to capture amazing photos and will review skills that include the rule of thirds, filling in the frame, negative space, scale and focal point. (Students should bring their own digital point and shoot camera, iPod Touch or iPhone.)

The Adult Oil Painting class welcomes all levels of artists and takes place on Wednesdays, from 7 to 9 p.m. beginning on Oct. 10 and running through Dec. 19.

Students will learn essential painting techniques such as color theory, composition, brushwork and more.
