Darien Arts Center is offering some new classes this fall, and registration is now open for educational programs in dance, visual arts, music, theater and martial arts, along with special events and community theater produced by DAC Stage.

For Ages 3 Through High School

THEATRE:

NEW! — Middle School Theatre Makers, ages 11-14, Tuesdays, 4 to 5:15 p.m., Sept. 11-Nov. 13. A studentdriven performance opportunity, where students will develop a script, design costumes, props & perform their own play. $250.

NEW! — The Audition Workout, ages 15-18, 7 to 9 p.m., Sept. 26, Oct. 1, 3, & 5. Students receive guidance and feedback from industry professionals to prepare for audition opportunities. $225 for 3 sessions, $175 for 2 sessions, $120 for 1 session.

DANCE and MARTIAL ARTS:

Fall classes Sept. 4 to Jan. 19, see catalog at darienarts.org for tuition, dates and times.

Dance classes for all levels, ages 3 & up include Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Teen Lyrical, Teen Contemporary, Modern, Broadway Dance, Tap, and Pointe.

Martial Arts for all ages 3 1/2 & up, the art of Karate and Kung Fu, focusing on self-discipline, self-control, self-defense and fun.

MUSIC:

Private Instruction in Piano, Guitar, Violin, Cello, Flute, Percussion, Voice – 30 min for $50, 45 min for $75 or 1 hour lessons for $99, Sept. 4 to Dec. 20.

VISUAL ARTS:

(New projects accommodate new and returning students.)

New! Little Artists, ages 3-5, Mondays, 2:30-3:15 p.m., Sept. 24 to Jan. 14. Budding artists experiment with different mediums, exploring color, shapes, texture, cutting, pasting, drawing and more. Develops fine motor skills and allows the opportunity to discover individual creativity. $300

Cartooning, ages 7-12, Mondays, 4:10 to 5:10 p.m., Sept. 24 to Jan. 14. Students design their own characters & use them in one-panel cartoons and three-panel comic strips. Study facial expressions & body language as it relates to cartooning & the human figure. TV storyboards & caricature included. $300.

New! Elementary Art Studio, ages 6 & 7, Wednesdays, 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., Sept 26 to Jan 9. Students will create developmentally appropriate art projects using the elements of art. A variety of different media and techniques will be explored. Students will create using pastels, watercolor, ink, printmaking and more. $260.

New! Art Studio, ages 8-10, Thursdays, 4 to 5:30 p.m., Sept. 27 to Dec. 13. Students will create innovative art projects using the basic elements of art. A variety of media and different techniques will be explored using oil pastels, watercolor, ink, pencils and more. $300.

Drawing/Painting, ages 10-15, Wednesdays, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sept. 26 to Dec. 19. All levels welcome. Students will use traditional and experimental materials to draw figures, landscapes, portraits, still life as well as images from their imaginations. Technical drawing skills will be developed and creativity encouraged. $330.

Click! Digital Photography, ages 9-12, Fridays, 4:40 to 5:40 p.m., Sept. 28 to Jan. 11. Learn to use a digital device to take great photos with the rule of thirds, filling the frame, negative space, color, texture and scales: $240.

For Adults

THEATRE:

NEW! Adult Playwriting, Thursdays, 7 to 9 p.m., Sept. 20 to Nov. 1. A six-week workshop, led by internationally produced playwright Jason Pizzarello, who will guide students in shaping great ideas and give inspiration needed to finish scripts in progress. Collaborate with fellow writers. $300.

BALLET or MARTIAL ARTS for Adults:

$20 drop-in fee. 10-class card for $180

VISUAL ARTS:

Watercolor Painting, Tuesdays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Sept. 25 to Nov. 27. For all levels. Focus will be on understanding the fundamentals of watercolor, technique and composition. $340. Oil Painting, Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00pm, Oct. 10 to Dec. 19. All levels welcome. Students will learn essentials painting techniques: color theory, composition, brushwork & more. $340.

MUSIC:
