Police: DUI for 26-Year-Old Man at 2 AM on Interstate 95

A man driving in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Exit 10 was swerving from the center lane to the breakdown lane several times before a Darien police officer pulled over his car and later charged him with driving while under the influence, police said. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

The officer was on patrol and using the highway at about 2 a.m. Saturday, May 5 when he spotted a white 2014 Infinity Q50 swerving from lane to lane. After stopping the car and while speaking with the driver, the officer smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic drink. The driver, a 26-year-old Norwalk man, said he had been drinking that night. The driver couldn’t perform field sobriety tests to an acceptable standard, so he was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and failing to drive in the proper lane on a highway.

Christopher Buckley will be at Barrett Bookstore at  on Saturday, May 19 at 6 p.m. to speak about his new novel, “The Judge Hunter.”

For many years, Buckley skewered the Washington establishment with his sharp wit, writing hilarious novels like,” No Way to Treat a First Lady, “Supreme Courtship” and “Thank You for Smoking.”

— an announcement from Barrett Bookstore

Now that the political situation has become so whacky that it defies satire, he looks to the past for material and discovers that time holds no immunity to skullduggery and outrageous behavior. Buckley’s first effort at historical fiction, “The Relic Master,” received rave reviews. The Wall Street Journal said, “We may be in 1517, but this is still a political send-up, and it’s as rascally and convivial as any that Mr. Buckley has written.”

Now in “The Judge Hunter,” Buckley takes the same bawdy, irreverent approach and spins a tale of adventure, comedy, political intrigue, and romance with real-life characters. His wit is as sharp as ever as he takes readers to 17th century London and New England as we visit the bawdy court of Charles II, Boston under the strict Puritan rule, and New Amsterdam back when Manhattan was a half-wild outpost on the edge of an unmapped continent. In a starred review, Kirkus writes,: “A witty bromance about international intrigue.

It’s Spring! – really

And planting has started at the Tokeneke Elementary School garden.

Starting in late April, the Tokeneke Edible Garden Committee brings in over 450 children to plant vegetables, herbs, and flowers in a fenced-off area adjacent to the school. In the garden, students plant vegetables like peas, carrots, arugula, pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, and garlic, and flowers like sunflowers and zinnias, according to Sarah Madson, parent and head of the garden committee. Every child gets a chance to plant something in the garden and to learn where their food comes from, she said. The garden also serves as the backdrop for the Lunch Bunch program.  Parents can sign up to have lunch with their child in the garden.  The children, and parents, love the chance to eat outside and take in some fresh air, said Principal Mary Michelson.
