Joseph G. Augustus, a lifelong resident of Darien, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at his home. He was 91.

Joseph Augustus, 91, passed away April 29. His funeral will be on Saturday, May 5.

Born Jan. 9, 1927 in Darien, he was the son of the late George Agosto and Josephine Calvi Agosto Verducci.

Mr. Augustus attended Darien Public Schools and was a star athlete while at Darien High. He participated in the Accelerated Graduation Program and was drafted into the U.S. Army near the end of World War II. He was stationed in Italy as part of the post-war occupation force.

He was a supervisor at the Darien Post Office, where he spent his entire career. He retired in the mid-1980s and spent the rest of his life enjoying the game of golf, winning many local tournaments.

He was a member of the Piedmont Club and served as its permittee during the 1970s and 1980s.

He is survived by one brother, Nicholas P. Augustus, Sr. of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews and 29 great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father, George Agosto, his mother, Josephine Calvi Agosto Verducci, and his stepfather, Paul Verducci. In addition, he is also predeceased by his brothers George Agosto, Anthony Augustus, John Augustus and two sisters, Joyce Waters and Nancy Marino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday May 5, 2018, at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien.
