A 49-year-old Darien woman was struck by a sport utility vehicle as she was walking toward Walgreens in the parking lot in front of the store at 148 Heights Road at about 6 p.m., Friday, she told police.
The woman was knocked down to the pavement by the impact, but she received no injuries. As a precaution, she was later taken to Stamford Hospital by a Darien EMS-Post 53 ambulance.
The middle-aged female driving the black SUV stopped, rolled down her window and asked if the victim was all right. The pedestrian said she was fine, and the driver left the scene.
About 15 minutes later, when the pedestrian had gone to Palmer’s, she thought she should call police, and did.
Although this incident appeared to end well, Darien Police Capt. Donald Anderson said that if he were the driver in a similar incident, he would want a police to come and file report confirming that the pedestrian was not complaining of an injury so that no false claims were filed. There’s a long history of phony reports of injuries in order to collect insurance claims, he said.
