A 27-year-old woman got the trash out of her SUV just before it went through the car wash, but didn’t remove two diamond earrings from the center console before workers started cleaning the inside of the vehicle, she told police.

Now the jewelry, valued at $4,300, is missing.

Darien police were given this account of the matter on Wednesday, Dec. 14:

On Friday, Dec. 2, the Stamford woman visited Splash Car Wash at 251 Post Road. The woman remembers last seeing the earrings, each with diamonds of 1 to 1.5 carats, in one of the compartments of the center console.

She realized they were missing shortly after she left the business and called Splash immediately. A manager looked through the car and had the vacuums inspected. A surveillance video recording showed nothing helpful.

The initial police report said police expected to talk with employees of the car wash.
