Man Learns That Mailing a Check from His Mailbox Is a Risky Move

A Pleasant Street resident told police that he wrote out a personal check and put it in his mailbox at night in an attempt to mail it on Feb. 11. Two days later, he received a fraud alert from his bank. When discussing the situation with a bank employee, the man discovered the check was written to a different payee — and for a much larger amount. The bank was able to stop the transaction before any money went out of the man’s bank account.
