A Pleasant Street resident told police that he wrote out a personal check and put it in his mailbox at night in an attempt to mail it on Feb. 11. Two days later, he received a fraud alert from his bank.
When discussing the situation with a bank employee, the man discovered the check was written to a different payee — and for a much larger amount.
The bank was able to stop the transaction before any money went out of the man’s bank account. The victim reported the incident to police on Feb. 21.
