Marie-Jeanne Moore, known as “Mary Jane,” passed away after a brief illness on Jan. 4, 2024 at Stamford Hospital, with her entire family beside her. She was 89.
Mary Jane was born to George and Eva Letourneau Breault on Dec. 18, 1934 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She had five siblings, Leo, Norman, Teresa and George and her sister Rita, all who predeceased her.
She attended parochial schools and Saint Anthony’s High School in New Bedford. A devout Catholic, she walked to church every day with her father. On her way to become a nun, she thankfully changed her mind at the last minute, and met the love of her life, William “Bill” Moore at the Lincoln Park dance hall near their homes.
Bill and Mary Jane married on June 7, 1958. They welcomed six children; Debbie Rutledge (Donn), Bill Jr (Jorie), Michael (Lisa), Brenda, who passed after birth, Colleen Plank (Scott) and Glen (Meghan).
Bill and Mary Jane settled in Darien in 1971 and lived a story book marriage that lasted 61 years, until his passing in 2019. Mary Jane and Bill were a force of nature who were dedicated to each other beyond measure. She cared for him through his many medical obstacles always nursing him back to health.
They enjoyed traveling to their cottage in Massachusetts; to their condo in Marco Island, Florida; and on many cruises and trips to the Dominican Republic, including a trip with the entire family for their 50th anniversary.
Mary Jane could be found on every sporting field, watching all of her children — right down to her youngest grandchild — do what they loved. Her big Sunday breakfasts were a tradition in the house and one could never leave home without being asked “where is your jacket?”
She was the most devoted mother who would do anything for her children whether they asked or not; she just instinctively knew what they needed and how she could best support them. Down to her very last moments all she did was express her love for them.
Mary Jane will live on in the hearts of Debbie, Bill, Michael, Colleen and Glen; their spouses, as well as her grandchildren: Doug, Jay, Samantha, Amanda, Brittany,Scott, Donn, Matt, Justin, Jamison, Ryan, Brennan, Morgan and Bridget; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Arya and Cole.
Funeral services will be private. Donations in Mary Jane’s name may be made to Post 53-Darien EMS at P.O. Box 2066 Darien, CT would be appreciated.
