Police: DUI for Woman, 26, Seen Driving on Post, Birch Roads Late at Night

A 26-year-old intoxicated driver crossed into the oncoming traffic lane twice on the  the Post Road and Birch Road at 1:24 a.m. on Friday, Darien police said. Police described the incident with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

The driver, a Harrison, Maine resident, was seen by an officer on patrol when she was making two turns. Each time, she drove into the oncoming traffic lane. The officer stopped the vehicle as it turned onto Birch Road. The officer saw that the driver had glassy, dilated eyes and the smell of alcohol coming from her.

The driver who caused a two-vehicle accident on Saturday, June 25 was too drunk to stand up without supporting himself against his own car, according to police. Darien police gave this account of the incident, including accusations not proven in court:

Scott Tracey, then 53, was driving either on the Post Road near Bertucci’s restaurant at 54 Post Road or in the restaurant parking lot (the announcement didn’t specify) and following a vehicle in front of him too closely when his vehicle struck the other one. When the officer who went to the scene asked Tracey for his insurance card, the driver couldn’t find it. Police determined that Tracey’s vehicle registration had been suspended due to lack of insurance. The driver of the other vehicle told the officer that Tracey might be intoxicated “due to his actions after the impact,” according to the announcement, which didn’t provide details about those actions.

After a traffic stop just after midnight Monday morning, May 18 an officer found a variety of illegal drugs on the back seat and in a passenger’s purse, an open container of alcohol and along with a 9mm Ruger handgun underneath the driver’s seat, police said. A wallet with $1984 in cash in it was found in the door pocket of the driver, who was charged with driving under the influence, on top of numerous other charges, police said

Darien police gave this further account of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

The officer first saw the man’s car, a Mitsubishi Mirage, turning from the westbound traffic lane on the Post Road onto Rings End Road, and a short time later, the officer saw the same car emerge from Rings End Road and get on the Post Road, this time headed east, the way it came. The officer followed the car. After seeing it cross the double yellow line over into the westbound side of the road, the officer pulled over the car. When the officer spoke with the driver, Kevin Alvarez, 21, of Bridgeport, the officer could smell the strong odor of marijuana and saw two cases of alcoholic beverages on the car’s back seat, along with an open beer bottle in the cup holder of the center console.

A 33-year-old woman was intoxicated when her car ran off the Post Road and crashed near Exit 11, Darien police said. Police did not describe the extent of her injuries, if any, in the Jan. 27 accident, but a Darien EMS-Post 53 ambulance went to the scene, where she was treated, and she was taken to Norwalk Hospital, police said. Police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At 1:35 a.m., a police was officer helping a driver in a minor car accident on the Post Road near its intersection with Old Kings Highway North. The officer saw a small car headed east (toward Norwalk) on the Post Road and at a high speed when it passed him at an unsafe distance.

Police: DUI Charge for Darien Woman After Argument in Vehicle Prompts Officer to Conduct a Traffic Stop

After a police officer on patrol saw a 39-year-old Darien woman in an argument with a passenger in the Jeep she was driving, the officer pulled over the vehicle — then noticed indications the woman had been drinking, police said. When she didn’t successfully complete standard field sobriety tests, she was charged with driving while under the influence, police said. Darien police gave this further account of what happened (with additional information from a police spokesman added, as noted, to the original police announcement), including accusations not proven in court:

At 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the officer saw the Jeep stopped at a red light at the end of the Exit 11 southbound-traffic ramp (across the Post Road from Leroy Avenue). When officer pulled his patrol car alongside the Jeep, he saw that the driver and a passenger in an apparent argument and decided to pull over the vehicle to make sure a domestic violence incident hadn’t occurred, a police spokesman said.

The driver of a car that went off the road and hit a fence was charged by police with driving under the influence — apparently of Oxycontin, police said. Darien police gave this account of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

Police were called to St. Nicholas Road at its intersection with Mansfield Avenue at 4:52 p.m. (a minute before sunset) on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and spoke with the 46-year old driver, a New Canaan man. The police announcement did not say whether the man had any injuries, what kind of car he was driving or describe whatever damages may have occurred, either to the car, the fence or anything else.
