A 26-year-old intoxicated driver crossed into the oncoming traffic lane twice on the the Post Road and Birch Road at 1:24 a.m. on Friday, Darien police said.
Police described the incident with this account, including accusations not proven in court:
The driver, a Harrison, Maine resident, was seen by an officer on patrol when she was making two turns. Each time, she drove into the oncoming traffic lane. The officer stopped the vehicle as it turned onto Birch Road.
The officer saw that the driver had glassy, dilated eyes and the smell of alcohol coming from her. She admitted that she was drinking. She also failed to perform field tests well enough and was charged with driving while under the influence and failure to drive on the right side of the road.
She declined to take breathalyzer tests and was later released on $50 bond. She is scheduled to appear Sept. 21 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
