New Citizens Police Academy Course Starts Sept 25 — You Can Register Now But Spaces Are Limited

Darien residents can sign up for the six-week “Darien Citizens Police Academy” to learn more about what the Police Department does, including criminal investigations, traffic stops, policies about the use of force and school resource officers. The free course will run from 7 to 9 p.m. on six Wednesdays,Sept. 25 to Oct. 30, and takes place at Darien Police Headquarters, 25 Hecker Ave. You can register for it by emailing Officer Amanda Hinkley at ahinkley@darienct.gov with your name, date of birth and address — but no later than Sept.

Darien Police Department, with help from the state Department of Transportation, is stepping up enforcement efforts this summer against speeding and aggressive driving. — an announcement from Darien Police Department

“On a regular basis throughout the entire summer, numerous additional officers will be working throughout the day and evening for the purpose of speeding enforcement and to target other associated motor vehicle violations that are known to cause motor vehicle accidents and endanger the public,” the announcement said. “As a reminder we ask the motoring public to always drive safely, cautiously, and to obey all traffic laws. Thank you.”

The Darien Police Commission cordially invites you to attend the Darien Police Department swearing in ceremony for Captain Andrew Mastroianni, Lieutenant Daniel Skoumbros, Sergeant Bryan Wallman, and Sergeant James Martin. The ceremony starts at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 6, at the Darien Community Association, 274 Middlesex Road. There’s no charge to attend.

Darien Police Department Welcomes Newest Officer, Katrina Cook

On Friday, Darien Police Department announced the hiring and swearing-in of a new officer, Katrina Cook, who’s been working in the fitness industry for the past 14 years. Officer Cook will be going through firearms and administrative training, and soon beginning a “comprehensive and rigorous training program at the newly established Stamford Police Academy,” according to the department’s announcement on Facebook. Cook was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent her early years in Orange County, New York. A dedicated athlete, she earned a full athletic scholarship to play soccer at Southern Connecticut State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and human performance in 2010. She worked for Equinox fitness clubs for nine years in various management roles and as a personal trainer.

Promotions Announced for Three Members of the Darien Police Force

Three sworn members of the Darien police force are being promoted — one to captain, another to lieutenant and a third to sergeant. A fourth member of the department, who was recently promoted, also will be part of an upcoming ceremony for all four promotions. Police Chief Jeremiah Marron Jr. announced the promotions Monday afternoon. “On behalf of the Darien Police Commission, I am very pleased to announce the following promotions of sworn staff,” Marron wrote. Lt.  Andrew Mastroianni to the rank of captain.

Darien Police Phone Lines for Routine Calls Out of Service for 10 Hours Friday [Updated]

UPDATE: Shortly before 5 p.m., Darien Police Department posted on Facebook (4:52 p.m.) and Twitter (4:55 p.m.) that the regular phone line is now working, after being out of service for about 10 hours. As of Friday morning, the phone line for regular calls to Darien Police were out of service — but emergency (911) calls can still get through — the department announced. On Twitter (now calling itself “X”), the department announced:

“Currently routine phone lines at Darien PD are out of service and Town IT is working on achieving restoration. 911 is fully functional for all emergency calls. We will advise when routine phone service is restored.”
