André Louis Causse III, a resident of Darien, passed away on Friday, June 23 in Darien two days before his 94th birthday. Born June 25, 1923 in Lakewood, N.J., he was the son of the late André Louis Causse Jr. and the late Gladys May Brooks. André graduated from Wooster School in Danbury and attended Clarkson College in Potsdam, N.Y. He served as an officer in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He owned a company that imported nuts and dried fruits and was a member of INC, International Nuts and Dried Fruits Council. An avid tennis player, he was on the courts until he was 93 ½ and a proud owner of Nemausa II, a 1929 antique wooden boat.

Constance (Tiggi) Cookson of San Diego, formerly of Darien, passed on June 21, 2017 following a brief illness. She was 66 years old. Constance was born in Newton Highlands, Mass. to the late Albert E. and Constance (Buckley) Cookson. She graduated from Darien High School in 1968, and then obtained masters degrees at George Washington University in Latin American studies and World Affairs.

Robert Francis Jordan, 76, of Storrs passed away from cancer on June 19. He was the son of Catherine (Fealey) and Francis Jordan and was born in Hartford. Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967, and obtained his B.A. and MBA from the University of Connecticut. He was the owner and managing partner of Jordan & Company, a marketing consultant firm. Prior to Jordan & Company, he was Managing Partner at Marketing Corp of America in Westport.

Longtime Darien and Rowayton resident Robert Dean Armstrong, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12. Born July 8, 1932 in Omaha, Nebr., he was the son of the late Harold Scaife Armstrong and Louise Palmer Armstrong. Bob spent his early years in Des Moines, Iowa; Wilmette, Ill.; and Old Greenwich. He graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Bob began his career with the American Bankers Association, ultimately becoming the director of automation, and he was on the team that established the CUSIP number.

Betty C. Schley, 76, passed away on June 14 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a long illness. Born on Oct. 17, 1940 in Stamford to Charles and Pauline Ralston, she and her husband Edward Schley of 54 years, were residents of Darien for nearly 40 years. After a successful career in real estate and working for Crate and Barrel, Betty retired in 2012. In addition to Edward, she is survived by her daughter, Deborah Wahlberg of Hingham, Mass.

Christine Stewart of Brewster, Mass., died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, June 13 at the age of 91. Christine was born in 1926 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her father, Austin Bothwell, was a 1906 Rhodes Scholar, the first from the Northwest Territories of Canada. Her mother, Jessie Robson Bothwell, was the first non-native female child born in Regina, Saskatchewan (formerly known as Pile of Bones), and later became the first woman to serve as the chief librarian of the Saskatchewan Legislative Library. At the age of 16, her first love, an American in the Royal Canadian Air Force, was killed when on a mission over Germany.

Roger L. Clare, 64, of Orange, beloved husband of Marion Clare, passed away on June 10 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He departed this world surrounded by family.  

Born on March 17, 1953, in Norwalk, Roger was the son of the late Edward and Marie Weed Clare. Roger was a proud member of the Darien Volunteer Fire Department since his high school years. He loved machinery and electronics and could often be found working on household projects.

Elizabeth Winslow (“Winnie”) Cutler of Mystic, beloved wife of the late William B. Cutler, died on Sunday, June 11. She was 90. Winnie was born on May 1, 1927, graduated from the Shipley School, and spent most of her young adult life in and around Manhattan, Darien and Southampton. She summered in Old Black Point then, in the 1960s, Stonington, which became her permanent home later in life. Winnie enjoyed life, friends and family.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ruth Riedel; his son, Wayne Riedel and Dana Danks; his daughter Deidre Riedel; his granddaughter Isabella Zangari; his brother Kraft-Rupprecht Riedel and his wife Diana; his sisters Bettina Riedel and Katharina Waldorf; and many other friends and family. Born and raised in Berlin, Germany the son of Gerd and Elfriede Riedel, he was a longtime resident of Darien. In his early years, he emigrated from Germany to America at the age of 18 years in 1956. Later on, he met his beloved wife Ruth Riedel.

Mr. Morgan was born on March 10, 1939 in Port Washington, N.Y. and was raised in Westport. He attended The Westminster School in Simsbury and Hebron Academy in Hebron, Maine from which he graduated in 1957. AC Morgan then attended North Carolina State University where he majored in textile chemistry and business management.
