Hubertus Riedel, 79, died Monday, June 12, peacefully at home, surrounded by a loving family.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ruth Riedel; his son, Wayne Riedel and Dana Danks; his daughter Deidre Riedel; his granddaughter Isabella Zangari; his brother Kraft-Rupprecht Riedel and his wife Diana; his sisters Bettina Riedel and Katharina Waldorf; and many other friends and family.
Born and raised in Berlin, Germany the son of Gerd and Elfriede Riedel, he was a longtime resident of Darien.
In his early years, he emigrated from Germany to America at the age of 18 years in 1956. Later on, he met his beloved wife Ruth Riedel.
While living in Darien, he was a well-known and accomplished builder in both Darien and New Canaan for many years. Mr. Riedel always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips.
Mr. Riedel had a passion for hunting all over the world. He loved gardening in his own yard even up to the time of his death. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and close friends, always brightening other people’s lives.
The wake service will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 15 at the United Methodist Church in Darien. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
Mr. Riedel will be missed but never forgotten.
