Charles “Charlie” Twardy of Georgetown passed away unexpectedly at Danbury Hospital on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020 at the age of 77. 

He was the beloved husband of Terry Satkowsky Twardy. Charlie was born Jan. 25, 1943 in Stamford, the son of the late Charles John Twardy and Helen Cecilia Mahn Twardy.  He grew up in Stamford, where he attended Stamford High School before finishing his education at J.M. Wright Technical High School. Following Wright Tech, he entered the optics industry.

Meredith A. Fahey, Hamden CT, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at Yale New Haven Hospital at the age of 73. Meredith was born to Bartley and Marienne Fahey in Stamford, the second of five children, and was lucky to be not only surrounded by her loving immediate family , but also to grow up in close proximity to a large, fun-loving family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. Meredith graduated from Darien High School and earned a B.A. degree from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore. She taught English at Darien High School for several years before leaving to start a career in business.

William Franklin Souders, 92, of Darien passed away on Sept. 24, 2020 with his family by his side. William (Bill) was born in Detroit on July 14, 1928, the first-born son of Julia (O’Brien) and Clifford Souders. Bill served with the parachute infantry in the U.S. Army during World War II, joining at the age of 17. He then attended and graduated from Lake Forest College, where he met the love of his life, Barbara Huskey.

Albert Lee Scribner, 94, of Arlington, Washington, died on Sept. 21, losing his fight with Alzheimer’s. Albert was born on April 26, 1926 in Stamford, Connecticut, one of 8 children. He lived in Darien and graduated early from high school to enter the Army Air Force to serve his country during World War II. Upon graduation he went to Arnold College in New Haven to earn a teaching degree.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Patricia spent part of her life in Mexico City before moving to Darien with her husband to be closer to her family.

Barbara Jane Fuller departed this world peacefully on June 17 at her home in Marion, Massachusetts after a brief illness, surrounded by her five daughters and numerous grandchildren. She was 89 years old. “Bobby” was born on Sept. 2, 1930 in Newton, Massachusetts. She attended the Northhampton School and Elmira College, where she sang in the choir and earned a bachelor’s degree in education.

Lillian Caballin Price, 85, passed away recently. She was born on Oct. 10, 1935 in Havana, Cuba to Manuel and Herminia Caballin. She met and married Robert Price, who predeceased her, and lived in Norwalk and Darien. Lillian taught English as a second language for many years in the Stamford Public Schools.

Marilyn was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1940. Marilyn had a huge impact on many of the people she met throughout her life. After graduating from Purdue University in 1961, she taught English at Proviso West High School outside of Chicago.

Diane Wheeler Kough, 85, of Sarasota, Florida, died peacefully on July 16, 2020 with her family by her side. A former resident of Darien and Rowayton, Diane moved to Sarasota in 1980. She was born June 6, 1935 to Mayland Milbank Wheeler and Betty H.B Wheeler in New Jersey. Diane was predeceased by her parents, her brother Kenneth Wheeler of Georgia, and former husband, Jesse R. Kough. Diane is survived by her children, Sandra K. Inman of Sacramento, California and Russell W. Kough and his wife, Lori, of Sarasota; and her grandchildren: Jessika W. Rutledge and husband Shaun of Roseville, California; Elizabeth Noelle Kough and Johnny Eilermann of Sarasota; her great-grandchildren: Taylor Rutledge and Parker Rutledge of Roseville; her longtime companion, George Kern, of Sarasota; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many treasured friends.

John Edward Nicholson of Plymouth, Massachusetts and formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on July 28. Ed was born in Ohio, and throughout his childhood lived in numerous towns throughout the state with his father, Hobart “Nick,” his mother, Kathleen, and his sister, Sally. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the Ohio State University, where he played on the golf team and deepened his roots as a diehard Buckeye fan. Ed started his career working in sales at Lenox Industries. Although he found great success, he soon realized that he wanted to follow his passion and spend the rest of his life playing golf.
