Janet Lawson Christie, 90, who resided at Maplewood of Darien, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov. 17, 1925 in Stamford to the late Alexander Lawson and Martha Muir Lawson. Janet was a longtime resident of Darien as well as residing in Monroe, Newtown, Trumbull and Wilton. She was the loving mother of William E. Christie, Jr. of Stamford, June M. Postolowski of Higganum, Janet C. Samperi of Monroe and Joyce C. Styslinger of Fairfield.

William F. Keeshan, Jr. died peacefully on July 15, 2016 at his home in New London, N.H., surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York City on May 21, 1934, William was the eldest son of the late Margaret Ryan Keeshan and William Francis Keeshan. He grew up in Stamford and graduated from the King School. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont, class of ‘57, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Following graduation, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving two years active duty and six years in the active reserves.

Michael Raymond Donnell, Sr. died peacefully at home in Franklin, N.Y., on July 9, 2016. He was born in Springfield, Mass. on June 12, 1931, the son of Raymond F. and Alma (Kreiger) Donnell. He was raised in Darien, CT and graduated from Darien High School in 1949 and Suffield Academy in 1950. Mike attended Connecticut Engineering Institute and served in the U.S. Coast Guard, being honorably discharged as a first class petty officer.

Walter J. Irving, 93, of Kennebunk, died peacefully on July 7, 2016, after a short stay at Reminiscence memory-care facility in Kennebunk, Maine. Born in 1923 in Somerville, Mass., he graduated from Belmont High School in Belmont, Mass., followed by Parks Air College in East St. Louis, Ill. He worked for Northwest Airlines in Seattle until WWII, when he served in the Marine Corps. He married Dale Schaffer in 1946; they lived in Darien from 1952 to 1980, and in Springfield, Vt., from 1980 to 1986.

Anne Marie McCarthy a resident of Ridgefield and a former longtime resident of Darien, passed away on Monday, July 11, peacefully surrounded by her family after courageously battling ovarian cancer for nine years. Anne Marie was born in Aalen, nestled in the “Schwabische Albs”, Germany to Josef and Hildegard Marquart Gruner on Sept. 15, 1939. She was 76. Anne Marie travelled from Germany on the SS Hanseatic to New York City.

William Fairchild Weidlich, son of Clifton Fairchild Weidlich and Katherine Slabey Weidlich, died of heart failure in Manhattan, on Sunday, July 3. He was 77. A native of Manhattan, and former resident of Darien and Washington, Conn., he was known to most as “Gus.” This legal advisor, soccer coach, tennis nut, avid sports fan, loyal friend and beloved member of the community remained an active alumnus of St. Bernard’s ’53, Philips Exeter Academy’56, Yale’60 and the University of Virginia Law School ’63.

Mary Thomas, 76, Raised Her Family in Darien, Taught in After- and Pre-School Programs

Mary H. Thomas, 76, of Newtown, passed away Friday, July 1 after battling ill health for several years. Mary was born in New York City, but was raised in Darien. She attended the Chatham Hall School in Chatham, Va. and Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, N.Y.

After college, Mary moved back to Darien to raise her family. She taught at the Noroton after-school and Darien pre-school programs.

Mary loved animals and upon retirement moved with her husband, William R. Thomas IV, to Withering Heights Farm in Newtown.

Constance Linda Ogden Wilson passed away peacefully at her home on June 8 at the age of 68. Linda was born in Stamford on July 16, 1947 to the late Robert Schuyler and Edith Mitton Ogden, Sr. Known by close friends and family as “Pindy”, she grew up in New Canaan, but raised her children in Darien. Just four years ago, she moved to Stamford to be closer to family. Besides her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Joan Ogden. Linda is survived by her son, James Thomas Wilson, and his wife Chelsea of Utah; her daughter, Lindsay Wilson, and her fiancé, Noel McNamara, of Stamford; her brothers, Robert S. Ogden, Jr. of Madison and Richard M. Ogden and his wife Laura of Washington, D.C.; her four beloved grandchildren, Callie, Zoe, Sophia and Schuyler; several nieces and her dearest pug, Ella.

Andrew John Collins, of Stamford, passed away Tuesday July 5. He was 72. Andrew was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 30, 1943, to Horace and Mary Collins. He worked as a driver for UPS for many years, and was also a dedicated volunteer fireman at Noroton Fire Department in Darien. Additionally, Andrew coached DJFL [Darien Junior Football League] football and Little League.

Donald Everett Freud of Alpharetta, Ga., formerly of New Canaan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 28 at the age of 88. Born Dec. 8, 1927 in New York City, he was the son of Everett H. and Hazel Freud. Mr. Freud, a resident of Alpharetta and Johns Creek, Ga. for 15 years, also lived in New Canaan from 1965 to 2001 where he was involved in many volunteer organizations.

Jean Leet, a former Darien, Wilson Point, Wilton and Hazen, N.D. resident, passed away peacefully on June 25. Born Nov. 4, 1922 in Zap, N.D. to Margaret Adams Stroup and Robert Martin Stroup, (Margaret) Jean Stroup grew up in and attended school in Hazen, N.D. She graduated from North Dakota State University and taught high school English in Elgin, N.D.

Shortly after marrying her college sweetheart, Jim Leet, they moved to London where they lived for the next 11 years while Jim worked for Pan American World Airways. Their three children were born in England. The family moved to Connecticut in 1958.

Ed was born on May 8, 1936 in Sodus, N.Y. to Edward Elliot Burns, Sr. and Frances Case Burns. He graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1954, Dartmouth College in 1958 and Tuck School of Business in 1959. Following college he served as a lieutenant in the United Stated Coast Guard.

She was born on February 2, 1930 in their home on Fairfield Avenue in Darien and attended the Darien Schools and the Merrill Business School. Shirley worked for many years for Stop and Shop as the office manager and later on at Life Study Fellowship in Darien. She was very active in the Noroton Heights Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
