Lillian Caballin Price, 85, passed away recently. She was born on Oct. 10, 1935 in Havana, Cuba to Manuel and Herminia Caballin. She met and married Robert Price, who predeceased her, and lived in Norwalk and Darien. Lillian taught English as a second language for many years in the Stamford Public Schools.
Marilyn Biggins, nee Carroll, died peacefully Sept. 16 at Ridge Crest Health Center in Redding after a long battle with the brain disease leukodystrophy. Marilyn was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1940. Marilyn had a huge impact on many of the people she met throughout her life. After graduating from Purdue University in 1961, she taught English at Proviso West High School outside of Chicago.
Nancy Hart Glanville Jewell, of Houston and formerly a long-time resident of Darien, died peacefully this past Sunday, the Aug. 2, 2020, at the age of 92. She died as she lived and as she wished, always a lady. Born on the Aug. 6, 1927, Nancy was the youngest of the three daughters of JP and Delphia Dixon Hart of Tacoma, Washington.
Robert P. E. van Marx of North Branford, and formerly of Darien, died Aug. 19, 2020. He was 92. He was born in Amsterdam on Feb. 14, 1928. He graduated from The Hotchkiss School and from Yale University, Class of 1950.
Victor J. Martini of Shelton, and a longtime Darien resident, peacefully entered eternal rest on Aug. 31, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. Vic was born in Greenwich on Aug. 27, 1938, the son of the late Victor and Rose Gasparino Martini. He attended schools in Greenwich.
Paul F Darrah, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 17, 2020. Paul was born July 26, 1928 in Louisville, Ohio to Joseph and Rolene Darrah He was the second oldest of 9 children. At an early age he was inspired by a family friend for a life at sea and joined the U.S. Navy after finishing high school. He traveled around the world in service to his country for 28 years, attended Officer Candidate School and rose to the rank of lieutenant commander.
Patricia Ann Powell of Darien, beloved wife of Frank A. Powell, passed away on August 30, 2020. She was 74. Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Patricia was the daughter of William and Katherine (Pisano) Tierney. Before her marriage to Frank, Patricia worked at All-State Insurance as a rater. After raising her children, she earned a certification in early childhood development.
Alan J. Edly, 84, passed away on June 14, 2020. Born June 22, 1935 in New York City, Alan is the son of Alexander and Grace (Hauss) Edly. Al attended Xavier High School in New York City and went on to graduate magna cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross in 1957. In 1963 he received an MBA from New York University. Al began his career as a staff accountant at Arthur Andersen & Co.
Suzanne Forsey Moore, a 45-year La Jolla, California resident, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 20, with family at her side. Suzanne is deeply missed by her loving family and her many life-long friends.Suzanne was born in Lockport, New York on March 14, 1926 to Rosaltha Mary Goble Forsey of New York and William J. Forsey of Wilham, England. Suzanne married her beloved husband, Ward F. Moore in 1944, just prior to his deployment to Europe. As a young woman in the early 1960’s, Suzanne worked with the Harkrider Modeling Agency out of New York City and was featured in LIFE magazine and various other travel magazines.
John J. Fitzpatrick, former a long-time resident of Darien, died on Aug. 12, after a brief illness. He was 87. John was born on May 17, 1933 in New York City. He attended and graduated from Iona Prep and Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.John served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Carole Dunn Tyler, 82, a lifelong Darien resident, passed away peacefully on Aug. 20, 2020 at Waveny Care Center. Born in 1938 to Helen Gaffney Dunn and Joseph Dunn, Carole graduated Darien High School in 1956. She loved the Town of Darien, raising her three children there. She especially loved spending days at Pear Tree Point Beach.
Howard W. Moore, 96, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2020 at the Knollwood Nursing Center in Paxton, Massachusetts. He was born June 21, 1924, in Greensboro, NC, the son of George R. and Lalla R. (Patterson) Moore and had lived in Paxton since 1963 before moving in 2014 to the Briarwood Continuing Care Community. Howard grew up in Richmond, Virginia during the Great Depression, and first exhibited his propensity for public service when he served as student council president at Binford Junior High School and president of his class at Thomas Jefferson High School. He matriculated at the University of Richmond until, like most of his generation, his college education was interrupted by World War II. Howard joined the U.S. Navy through the V12 program, was recognized as a superior navigator.
Rodney “Rod” Fisk Beckwith passed away on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020. He was 84. He was born on Oct. 24, 1935 in Passaic, New Jersey to Raymond Fisk and Nancy Oberdorf Beckwith who predeceased him.
Genevieve Ann Alcott Causse Causse, a Darien resident, passed away Aug. 9 at the age of 82. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she attended public schools and Holland Hall private school before getting her undergraduate degree in chemistry at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater. Geni loved classical music, skiing, drawing house plans, traveling Chris-Craft wooden boats, trains, transatlantic crossings on the Queen Mary 2, reading, and gardening. Her husband, Andre Causse, predeceased her in 2017.
Richard Van Arnam Huie, age 85, of Branford died on Wednesday, Aug.ust 12, 2020 at The Hearth in Branford. Richard and his twin brother, David, were born in Greenwich on July 5, 1935, the sons of Janet (Lockwood) Huie and Albert Van Arnam Huie. In 1937 Richard moved to Great Neck, New York and then in 1941 to Hinsdale, New Hampshire, where he attended the Bridge Street School. In the summer of 1943 he moved to Northford, finishing his grammar school education there. He graduated from the Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford in 1953.
