Francesco Brunetto, a resident of Darien, passed away on Wednesday, May 19 in Darien. He was 82. Born Feb. 22, 1939 in Castiglione, Sicily, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Giuseppina (Trefiletti) Brunetto. Francesco worked as a highway foreman for the Darien Department of Public Works for 46 years before retiring in 2004.
Susan Baudendistel Liedell, 85, passed away on May 19, 2021 due to complications from a fall at her home in Darien. Susan lived in Yarmouth Port on Cape Cod for 23 years before moving to Darien with her husband, James (Jim), in March 2019 to be closer to family. She most recently belonged to the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth. Susan was born in Brooklyn, New York on Aug. 31, 1935, and she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Grace Gowen Baudendistel.
Stephen Yaeger passed away on May 13. He was 68. Born on Oct. 19, 1952, in Stamford and raised there, he received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Catholic High in Stamford and at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.
Stephanie Caffrey Oda was born Oct. 5, 1943 to Thomas and Rosaleen Caffrey in Ardee, County Louth, Ireland. She came to the United States in 1967 and lived in New York City before settling in Connecticut. Stephanie pursued a career in publishing and was co-owner of Open Book Publishing in Darien. Stephanie earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree from Manhattanville College.
Alan Haid, a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, May 6, at the age of 85 in his hometown of Hamilton, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Alan Griffis Haid was born in Hamilton, Ohio on July 27, 1935 to Arthur G. and Dorothy (Griffis) Haid. Alan married the love of his life Elaine (Kauffman) Haid on August 24, 1963. Together they raised four sons: Stephen, Alan, Jim and David. Alan graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and a Master’s of Business Administration from Indiana University.
Katharin Henrietta Baker passed away peacefully at Notre Dame Convalescent Home on March 6. She was 96. She was born on June 10, 1924 in Butte, Montana to Katharin and William Harvey. She is predeceased by her husband, James M. Baker, and her brother, William Harvey. Katharin grew up in rural Montana.
Carol Ann Weil Santosus, a resident of New Canaan for nearly 50 years, died Sunday morning, May 9, at her home, having lost her second battle with cancer. She was 86. Carol was born June 24, 1934, in Yonkers New York, the first daughter, and second child of the late Edward John and Dorothy O’Rourke Weil. Priced out of purchasing a home in Westchester, her parents chose to build a new home in Lake Success on Long Island, which was a burgeoning, but still affordable suburb. Carol attended and graduated from Great Neck High School in 1952.
Antoinette Rita Gleeson of Darien died Sunday, May 9, at her home. She was 93. She died following a long illness, according to her family. Born on July 1, 1928 in New York City, she was the daughter of Michael and Angelina Boscaino of Darien. Mrs. Gleeson worked for many years as an administrative assistant to the principal at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, Massachusetts, before retiring in 1983 and relocating to Darien.
Bryan Curtis Cary of Darien passed away on May 3, 2021. He was 71. He was the son of the late Frank and Anne Cary of Darien and the brother of Marshall Cary, Steven Cary and Laura Cary. Bryan grew up in Darien, leaving to attend Babson College in Boston and later to attend UCLA to complete his MBA. He returned to begin his career as a bond-trader at Salomon Brothers in New York City, and remained in the field of municipal finance until his retirement.
Jean McKelvey Hankin of Ipswich, Massachusetts, died peacefully May 5, 2021 at The Residence at Riverbend in Ipswich. She was 91. Jean was born April 23, 1930 in Rochester, New York. to Fred E. McKelvey and Katherine W. McKelvey. She spent her childhood in Rochester with her parents, her older sister Anne (Roon) and older brother James (Jim).
William Charles (“Bill”) Bieluch Jr., 75, passed away Monday, May 3, of natural causes in Darien, his long-time home. Born in Hartford to Nellie (Sidor) Bieluch and Judge William C. Bieluch, Bill attended Kingswood High School, Brown University and St. John’s University School of Law. After working for the American Stock Exchange and then practicing law in New York City at the firm of Hall, McNicol, Marrett & Hamilton, Bill practiced law for many decades from his own office in downtown Darien. Bill also previously served on the town Planning & Zoning Commission.
Joan Murdough Boucher died peacefully, with family by her side, Sunday, May 2, 2021.She was 88. Born Nov. 22,1932, she was the daughter of Clark and Florence Allen Murdough of Newport, Rhode Island. Joan married Roger William Boucher on June 30, 1956. They settled in the Highlands of Bristol, Rhode Island where they would raise their seven children.
Jennifer Geddes, age 78 of Darien, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2021 at Stamford Hospital. Jennifer was born on Nov. 1, 1942 in Philadelphia to the late David S. and Marion Moore. She graduated Darien High School, Class of 1960, and the Stamford Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. After brief rotations in the ER and OR, she found her forever home in Labor & Delivery.
On May 3, 2021 Thomas Herbert Bothwell ended a life well lived. He was 85. He was born on Sept. 21,1935 in Cavan, Ireland to Robert and Maud Bothwell. With his twin sister Ruth (Bothwell) Reidel a clan of 9 boys and 2 girls.
Carmen Perez de Guzman San Roman, wife of Vincent C. Arguimbau Jr. and known as Tempa, passed away peacefully at home with family on April 15 in Seville, Spain. She was 91. She was born on Sept. 8, 1929 in Lucena del Puerto, Huelva, Spain, to Admiral Pedro Perez de Guzman Urzaiz and Carmen San Roman Malagarriga. Tempa was schooled at Las Madres Irlandesas in Castilleja de la Cuesta.
