Doris (Finley) O’Brien, 99, of Killingworth, formerly of Darien, beloved wife for 67 years of the late Morris (Obie) O’Brien, passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2024.
Born in Stamford on Dec. 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Bessie (McCaffrey) Finley and sister to the late James Finley.
Doris graduated from Stamford High School and the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She worked as an administrative assistant in the Physical Therapy Department at St. Joseph’s Hospital for Drs. Edward Casey and Charles Marshall, who became close family friends.
She was an excellent bowler, often achieving high triple, high average and high single awards from her bowling league. She also enjoyed golfing and laughing with her friends and was a loyal patron of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Darien.
Doris will be forever missed by her loving daughter, Mary Murray and husband, Robert, of Killingworth, and her grandchildren: Ryan and Julia (Steese) Murray of Claremont, New Hampshire, Megan (Murray) and Jason Truncellito of Enfield, MaryKate (Murray) and Brandon Miller of Boston, Gregory Murray of Middletown, and Eric and Cristina O’Brien of Pittsburg, as well as her great-grandchildren: Ava Truncellito, Finn Murray, and Carson and Connor O’Brien. Doris is survived by her estranged son, James O’Brien, and was pre-deceased by her estranged daughter, Janice (O’Brien) Lampariello.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Village at South Farms in Middletown for their kindness, care, and compassion while caring for Doris.
The Lawrence Funeral Home of Darien will be handling the funeral arrangements. Burial will be private at St. John’s Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, .
