Westport Library is hosting its Big Spring Book Sale Event indoors with thousands of used books to browse through this weekend, from Friday to Monday, May 17 to 20.
The Westport used book sale is one of the biggest in Fairfield County (along with Southport’s Pequot Library Book Sale, taking place this year from July 26 to 30).

The gently used books in over 50 categories, include children’s; literature and classics; fiction, mystery, and SciFi and fantasy; art, photography, history, math, science, psychology, philosophy, religion and spirituality, biography, business, cooking, gardening, performing arts, travel, foreign language, education, reference, and more, along with noteworthy, especially antiquarian books.
In addition to books, there are vintage vinyl records, DVDs and CDs, ephemera, and a large selection of framed artworks, from small desktop pieces to supersized wall pictures.

BOOK SALE DAYS AND HOURS:
Early ACCESS HOURS, PAID TICKET-HOLDERS ONLY:
Friday, May 17 — 8:45 a.m. to 12 noon
Tickets are $35 each + platform’s processing fees, bringing the total to $39.19. Tickets for Friday’s Early Access hours must be purchased online in advance, through eventbrite.com, HERE.
A maximum of 125 tickets will be sold, but as of 7:15 a.m., Friday, tickets were still on sale. If you’re actually going during the morning rush hour, check an app like Waze or Google Maps for the quickest route, going via the Merritt Parkway could actually be quicker, even if you don’t live near it.
FREE ADMISSION:
Friday, May 17 — 12 noon to 6 p.m. (Please note Noon start time)
Saturday, May 18 — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, May 19 — from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — This is Half-Price Day — almost everything offered at half price! (NOTE: $1 Fiction books and $1 Children’s books remain at $1)
Monday, May 20 — from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Fill our Logo Bag for $10 per bag, or fill your own equivalent-sized bag for $8 per bag, or purchase individual items at half-price, your choice
Health precautions
Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance to the sale, and at various points within the Library — Social distancing is strongly encouraged — At this time, the wearing of face masks inside the Library is optional; we will continue to monitor town regulations and area health conditions, and may adjust these requirements as conditions warrant. We recommend that you bring a face mask with you, just in case. — Please stay home if you have a fever or are feeling unwell.
High Volume Purchases, Please Note
— No books or other materials may be left unattended at any time, except in designated areas. Books may not be aggregated in aisles nor may they block any exit. Any books found piled in an aisle or blocking an exit will be promptly re-shelved.
— Shoppers are requested to evaluate items in place — please decide whether to purchase an item at the table or shelf where it is displayed. If you reject an item, please return it to the place it was displayed.
— There will be designated a limited area for high volume purchasers to aggregate and evaluate potential purchases. Due to space limitations, this area will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Users are required to leave their name and cellphone number with their materials in this area. Users are asked to return rejected books to the place they were originally displayed.
— As a convenience for high volume purchasers — as in recent sales, we will be happy to begin to add-up (tally) books you have selected for purchase while you continue shopping. You will be required to leave your name and cellphone number with your selections.
— Please bring your own bags, boxes and rolling carts to carry your selections. We do not anticipate having any boxes available for your use.
