Police: Man, 27, Uses Stolen ID to Buy a 2020 BMW in Darien, But Police Find Him
|
A 27-year-old New York City man using stolen identity information bought a 2020 BMW M4 from the BMW of Darien dealership last July but was caught after a police investigation, and on Nov. 21 he turned himself in, Darien police said. Police gave the following account, including accusations not proven in court:
On July 25, an employee at BMW of Darien told police that the dealership sold the car to a man who passed all background checks and credit checks — but who turned out to have used someone else’s identification. The dealership was told by an employee of a car dealership in Hartford that the same person was trying to buy a vehicle at that business but the personal information given had been flagged as I.D. theft. The police announcement was unclear about how the customer’s personal information had passed muster at the Darien dealership but not the one in Hartford.
