Police: DUI for Woman, 44, Driving Extremely Slow on Old Farm Road

When a driver traveling extremely slowly on Old Farm Road pulled alongside a police patrol car and stop, police thought the driver seemed to want to make contact with them to tell them something, and they approached the vehicle, police said. So when the driver suddenly drove off, police didn’t know what to make of her actions, according to police, who described what happened next with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

The officers followed and stopped the car several hundred feet away, still on Old Farm Road and near the Tokeneke School entrance. It was about 1 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Police spoke with the driver.

After getting two reports of a car being driven erratically as it headed south on Mansfield Avenue at about 6:30 p.m., Saturday, police stopped the driver and soon charged him with driving under the influence. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Both callers described the car as a black Ford sedan. Officers first saw it on Mansfield near the Country Club of Darien and followed it for a mile before pulling over the driver at the intersection of Mansfield Avenue and Oak Crest. The driver, a 54-year-old Easton man, had slurred speech and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. A police officer saw a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey on the floor between the driver’s feet.

When police stopped a gray Honda Accord on West Avenue at about 12:30 Wednesday morning, Nov. 21, they determined the driver was intoxicated with alcohol, and his passenger, also intoxicated, had marijuana and traces of cocaine in his backpack, police said. As the 19-year-old driver traveled east on West Avenue, the police officer saw the car cross the center dividing lines on the road several times. The officer stopped the vehicle at 12:31 near the intersection of West Avenue and Edgerton Street. When speaking to the driver, the officer smelled an alcoholic beverage.

A 31-year-old woman behind the wheel of a white 2013 Jeep Cherokee on Tokeneke Road was stopped by a police officer shortly after 1:46 a.m. on Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated, Darien police said. Police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

At 1:46 a.m., the officer saw the Jeep didn’t have its rear license plate lit, as required by law. The officer followed the vehicle onto Interstate 95 South, where the Jeep was traveling at 75 mph. The Jeep was pulled over. Police did not report seeing any indications that her driving was affected by intoxication.

Police: DUI Charge for Darien Man, 52, Asleep Behind Wheel of Parked Vehicle, Engine Revved

A 52-year-old Darien man was found intoxicated, with more than double the legal amount of alcohol in his blood, asleep behind the wheel of a parked vehicle, its engine revved and steam coming from under the hood, just past midnight on Saturday, Sept. 22, police said. Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

The man, who lives in the neighborhood, was in a vehicle parked near the intersection of West Avenue and Charles Street. Four police officers, dispatched after a call at 12:12 a.m., found the man asleep behind the wheel, his foot on the accelerator, the engine revving, steam coming up from under the hood and radiator coolant leaking onto the ground. They woke the man and asked him to step out of the vehicle.

A man later found with cans of beer and narcotics crashed his vehicle and was found unconscious by police after his vehicle jumped the curb off the Darien High School loop roadway on Thursday, less than 20 minutes after school was let out, police said. [This article has been updated twice (as noted below).]

Police were called to the scene at 2:37 p.m., just 17 minutes after students were let out of school for the day. Nordin Farez, 39, was in a car with a 31-year-old Stamford man (who was not charged), and both were unconscious when Officer Bryan Wallman, the Police Department’s school resource officer, was the first from the department to arrive at the scene. Wallman is based at the school. Farez’s car had jumped the curb while on the school’s loop driveway and had come to rest, still running and with the shift in “Drive,” on the south side of the loop, against a guardrail.

Police: Stamford Man Rearrested After Skipping Court on a 1997 DUI Arrest in Darien

More than 21 years after he was arrested on a charge of driving while under the influence, then didn’t go to court, Martin Ramirez, 47, of Stamford has been rearrested, police said. Darien police said they were informed by police in Greenwich on Tuesday, July 31 that Ramirez was in their custody and that there was an active bench warrant charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court on the March 20, 1997 Darien DUI charge. Darien police then went to Greenwich and took custody of Ramirez, arresting and holding him when he couldn’t post the $500 bond. Ramirez, who lives on Rose Park Avenue in Stamford, was taken to state Superior Court in Stamford the next morning. The court files in his case have been sealed, and he is scheduled to be in court again on Sept.

Man, 50, Charged With Failure to Appear in Court for 24 Years After DUI Arrest at Age 26

On July 12, 1994, a man now living in North Carolina, then aged 26, was driving while intoxicated in Darien and got arrested for it, police allege. He didn’t show up for court at some point, police say, and his rearrest was ordered on Sept. 7, 1994, according to state court records. On Tuesday, June 12, Stamford police informed police in Darien that the man was in custody, and they asked whether Darien police would arrest him. Darien police did. The man is now 50, almost double the age he was then.

A 62-year-old man reportedly driving erratically at 6:39 p.m., Thursday had more than two and a half times the legal alcohol limit in his blood when he was tested about a half hour later, police said. Darien police gave this account of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

Called to the area of the intersection of the Post Road and Cross Street near Spring Grove Cemetery on the report of an erratic driver, police stopped the vehicle described to them, a gold minivan and with the same license plate number described to them. Officers talking with the man, a Norwalk resident, immediately smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. They found it difficult to understand him through his slurred speech. When asked for his driver’s license, he gave police several credit cards before he found it.

An intoxicated 32-year-old Darien man got into a single-car accident on West Avenue sometime before 8:28 a.m. on Memorial Day, ran off, stumbling, then ran again when a police officer first spotted him, Darien police said. Police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Christopher Oxer of Henry Street (nearby) was driving a white Audi Q5 when the sport utility vehicle got into the accident. A caller told police that the vehicle drove into a bush. Police arriving at the scene saw the SUV, damaged, at 325 West Ave., at the corner of West Avenue and Patton Drive. The witness told police that the driver left the car and was headed toward Joseph Street, across West Avenue from the accident.(Oxer was later charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop at a stop sign.)

As an officer checked the area, a driver flagged him down to tell him that he saw the driver run, stumbling, behind a house on Charles Street (a block to the east).
