After drinking a bottle of vodka, a 58-year-old Darien man repeatedly punched and pushed another person at home, before police were called at about 1:10 a.m. on Saturday, police said. He was charged in that case and taken to Stamford hospital for observation, police said. A day later he was charged a second time after calling someone to get a ride home, although that person was connected to the first case and police had issued an order of protection forbidding him to contact that person. Since the matter is a domestic violence case, state law forbids police from describing the victim in any way. The arrested man’s address was also not released, and Darienite.com will not publish his name.

As sometimes happens with 911 calls, no one spoke directly to a Darien police dispatcher who received a call at 12:49 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4. More unusual was what happened this time: According to police, the dispatcher heard people arguing, with one of them yelling for help. Darien police described what happened with this additional account (including accusations not proven in court):

Since no one was telling the dispatcher where the emergency was taking place, the dispatcher traced the location, and officers went to the scene — a home on Old Farm Road in the Tokeneke section of town. There they met with a resident who said he had been in an argument with the victim, who had left.

Police described the events and the investigation with this account (including accusations not proven in court):

The woman, a resident of Walmsley Road, ran out of the house and brought the wallet to the Darien police station — where police decided that the fresh cuts on her indicated that an assault had taken place.
