DCA Duo Piano Group Fall Concert

On Sunday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. the Darien Community Association’s Duo Piano Group will perform their fall concert. The Duo Piano Group will again entertain the crowd at their next concert, “Celebrating 70 Happy Years!” with family fun for all. Join them to celebrate with refreshments, cupcakes and balloons. The DCA Duo Piano Group is an enthusiastic group of accomplished amateur pianists who play together for fun and to continue their musical education.

The highlight of the party will be your little one’s visit with Santa, set against the backdrop of a full-size Christmas tree nestled within our historic home. When there’s a line, adults will find plenty of chairs, and toddlers will have some little things to keep them occupied, including holiday cookies and juice. The Darien Community Association recently hosted an evening reception for local businesses, families and foundations who sponsor named college scholarships through the DCA. — an announcement from the Darien Community Association

The association’s need-based college scholarship program for Darien High School graduates is now in its 77th year. The DCA is the largest provider of scholarships at DHS. Of the scholarship program, Executive Director Amy Bell said, “Since its inception, the DCA has awarded more than $2 million to over 1300 DHS graduates, including funding for returning college students.” Students who receive DCA scholarships can reapply each year. This past spring, the DCA awarded over $60,000 in scholarship grants.

The Darien Community Association is offering a “cheese and wine tasting luncheon” on Thursday, Nov. 1 with Ken Skovron of Darien Cheese and Fine Foods. If you want to go, you’ll need to register and pay by noon on Tuesday. — an announcement from the Darien Community Association

Skovron will lead you through a delectable selection of eight cheeses with a variety of textures and flavors, including recommendations for the holidays at the Darien Community Association. The event takes place from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Thursday. Megan Ruppenstein of Four Forks prepares the perfect accompaniment: her delicious seasonal salad of arugula, figs, roasted delicata squash and toasted pecans, with an orange cinnamon vinaigrette.

Free Gardening Workshop at Darien Community Association

Learn how to put your garden “to bed” by dividing plants, lightly pruning various shrubs, and updating winter pots at the Darien Community Association Greenhouse Group’s annual Free Fall Gardening Workshop next Tuesday, Oct. 16. Novice gardeners will be given tips; experienced gardeners are welcome to just help out. This event is free to all. — an announcement from the Darien Community Association

The workshop takes place Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the formal garden of the DCA Meadowlands, located at 274 Middlesex Road.

Duplicate Bridge Open Game

Tom Hunter of Come Play Bridge will return as our duplicate bridge director. Our Monday game is a drop-in play, $13 open game, without a DCA membership requirement, to help players obtain more master points. Tom will be using hands from The Common Game, so hand records will be available. Games will be stratified, and Tom will also be available both before and after the game for questions and discussion. This challenging game is held in the Garden Wing every Monday, starting from Sept.
