Darien police charged a boyfriend and girlfriend, both 32 years old, after police said the pair damaged property at The Heights in Darien during a domestic dispute that spilled outdoors.

Darien police described the incident with this account (including accusations not proven in court):

Police were called to Allen O’Neill Drive at 12:25 a.m. on Friday, March 26 on a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they saw the man and woman yelling at each other, with the woman trying to stop the man from leaving in his vehicle.

The man was walking on the street, followed by his son, 4 or 5 years old. He told police the argument began over his girlfriend leaving the boy, who is not related to her, with a neighbor.

At various points in the argument the woman was said to have slammed a front door, damaging the door jamb. Police also saw damage to the base of an exterior column, said to have been caused by the man kicking the base of it and breaking it off. The girlfriend said the man, a resident of Seymour, had kicked the door (he said he had only slammed it on the way out.

At another point, the woman threw some of his possessions onto an outside walkway, breaking some of them. A small glass table broke. The man said his girlfriend threw it at him. A piece struck his right cheek, he said, causing a cut.

Both the boyfriend and girlfriend told police they didn’t want the other person arrested. But each was charged with disorderly conduct and fourth-degree criminal mischief. They were issued misdemeanor summonses to appear that morning in state Superior Court in Stamford. The state Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident, although police could not determine where the child was at the time the property was damaged.
