Peter Tinnen-Strmiska was in the driveway of his home on Wood Acre Road in Norwalk at about 5 p.m., Thursday, May 12, when a relative pulled a vehicle into the driveway and struck the boy, according to numerous news reports. Police and an ambulance crew responded and rushed him to Norwalk Hospital, where he died.

“I’m beside myself,” his mother, Kayla Tinnen, wrote that day in a post on the GoFundMe charitable donations website. “We lost him in a freak accident this afternoon. He was hit by a car and an unknowing family member was behind the wheel.”

Tinnen had already set up the GoFundMe appeal two months before: “I created it then because I was looking from support from friends because my landlord is evicting me, I had gone out of remission from Crohn’s Disease and medical bills were piling up, and I was in a desperate place.”

When her son died, she had an additional reason to ask for help, she wrote: “I’m reaching out to any and everyone asking for support. I don’t have any savings to bury my beloved child, and we don’t have a cent to get back on our feet. I appreciate ANY assistance you can provide. God bless you.”

The GoFundMe campaign raised $46,839 as of early Tuesday morning.

The funeral will be held at New Beginnings Church at 10 a.m., Thursday, according to an obituary on Legacy.com (below) which was published in the Norwalk Hour.

Visiting hours are from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Downer Funeral Home in Stamford. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey A. Ingraham of Calvary Baptist Church in Norwalk will be the eulogist.
