Now in its 38th year, the New England Academy of Dance’s production of The Nutcracker Ballet has become a holiday tradition in New Canaan

The Nutcracker, a classical two act ballet based on the story by E.T.A Hoffmann, follows the enchanting journey of Clara, who receives a Nutcracker as a gift on Christmas Eve. In a vivid dream, her Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince who leads her on a voyage through an enchanted forest to his Palace of Sweets, where she meets the exquisite Sugar Plum Fairy and the people of the Land of Sweets.

Opulent sets and dazzling costumes serve as the backdrop to showcase the talent of the Nutcracker cast who bring these exciting characters to life on stage. One of the largest productions of its kind, NEAD’s Nutcracker is comprised of over 150 dancers, mixing students from NEAD with professional dancers from New York City.

“It is the most magical time of year and there is no better way to celebrate than by performing in the Nutcracker,” Jones said.
