A Photographer’s View of Australia: Presentation Wednesday at Darien Men’s Association

Dave Pressler, Connecticut photographer, artist and designer, will talk about “Australia, All Over – Down Under” at the Darien Men’s Association on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. His core message is “learning to look in order to see,” encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to become visually conscious of the world around them. Dave’s presentation reveals Australia’s dramatic land and water forms, wildlife, unique botanicals, ancient aboriginal rock art, creative architecture and some humorous items from contemporary culture. He is vice president of ART/PLACE Gallery in Fairfield and is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.

Twenty-five winning photographs were chosen from over 300 impressive entries and a slideshow of all entries was featured on the DAC Weatherstone Studio’s 184″ HD movie screen. Judge Miggs Burroughs led the awards ceremony which was followed by cake and refreshments.

Deadline Extended to Thursday, March 2 for ‘Pic Darien’ Smartphone Photo Contest

Darien Arts Center has announced that the deadline has been extended for its Pic Darien smartphone photo contest. You now have until Thursday, March 2 to get your photos in. Professional artist and accomplished Westport graphic designer Miggs Burroughs will judge the contest. This is the second year for the photo contest, which garnered over 400 entries in 2016. This year, contestants may submit their smartphone photos for cash prizes in 5 categories at darienarts.org until March 2.

The Darien Arts Center is announcing the return of its smartphone photography contest fundraiser, Pic Darien. The contest is open to all; there are no age restrictions and contestants are not required to live in Darien. In 2016, its first year, the well-received contest garnered almost 400 entries from contestants of all ages from places as far away as California, Tennessee and Washington D.C.

This year, contestants may submit their smartphone photos for cash prizes in 5 categories at the DAC website until Feb. 27. Participants may enter either as a child, age 10 and under, student, ages 11 to 17, or as an adult, ages 18 and over, in one of five themed prize categories including People/Pets, Nature, Travel, and new this year, Food, and Humor. Each contestant may enter up to 2 smartphone photos for a $25 fee.

Graduation, weddings, family reunions, dinner parties…..the list goes on and on as to events we will either be taking photos, or be in photos, capturing those special moments in life!  This is a season for many of those events so we thought it appropriate to give you some guidance!  Lucky you if you are one of those who looks fabulous in just about every photo!  For many, having a photo taken is not on our list of favorite things!

The Darien Arts Center recently awarded 28 cash prizes in its first-ever smart phone photo contest, Pic Darien. The contest garnered almost 400 entries in seven categories, with submissions from all ages. Contestants were not required to live in Darien, and photos were submitted online from as far away as California, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Washington D.C., in addition to Connecticut. Award & Reveal Reception for Pic Darien Smartphone Photo Contest Friday, April 8

The Darien Arts Center is holding an Award and Reveal Reception for its first-ever smartphone photo contest, Pic Darien on Friday, April 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The reception is complimentary and open to the public. A slideshow set to music will debut the winning photographs as well as all other photo entries on the DAC Weatherstone Studio’s 184” HD movie screen. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served. Nationally published professional photographer, Alix Martinez of Darien, judged the contest, a fundraiser, sponsored by Darien Rowayton Bank, Geary Gallery and Adelaide Fine Art.
