Darien Woman, 37, Charged Again, This Time in a Minor Domestic Violence Incident

For the fifth time since September, a Darien woman has been charged by police, most recently on a disorderly conduct charge connected with a minor domestic violence incident, her second one in Darien. Adaobi Kurylov and a man she was in a confrontation with were each charged with disorderly conduct after an incident on Tuesday, April 10 in the Avalon Darien apartment complex off of Hollow Tree Ridge Road, police said. This is how Darien police described the incident, including accusations not proven in court:

As part of a divorce agreement, the man was giving a vehicle to Kurylov, and on Tuesday he went to Avalon Darien to deliver a case of water to her and take the license plates off the vehicle, the man told police. When Kurylov learned he had removed the license plates, she became angry, and an argument took place. The man said he tried to walk away and leave, but Adaobi followed him and “smacked” his telephone out of his hand.

Darien High School Graduation Logistics: What to Expect, When and Where (June 17)

Following a recommendation of Superintendent Dan Brenner, the Darien Board of Education votes unanimously Tuesday night to set the date for Darien High School graduation for a date near the end of June. The last day of school for teachers across the district will be Friday, June 22, and for students, Thursday, June 21. That Thursday, June 21, will also be Graduation Day for Darien High School. Any event that closes school for a day or more could always mean that extra school days will be added, changing the dates, Brenner warned. The first day of summer school will be Monday, June 25 — so if for any reason the school year is lengthened, something would have to be done about that starting date.

Darien Board of Finance Proposes Slight Tax Cut, RTM to Vote in May

A slight tax cut, shaving eight cents per $1,000 in assessed value in Darien property taxes, would go into effect if the Representative Town Meeting approves the package of budget and tax proposals just passed by the Board of Finance on Monday night. The new mill rate would be 16.08 mills, or $16.08 in taxes per $1,000 in assessed value, due in two installments on Jan. 1 and July 1 next year. The current mill rate is 16.16 mills, and the proposed mill rate would be a reduction of about half of 1 percent. Town officials said they wanted to avoid new programs in the budget, and keep a vice grip on hiring new staff. Capital projects involving construction were also minimized, with some new projects proposed for bonding rather than the operating budgets, spreading their cost into future years.

Twenty-two have been hospitalized, “including three people who have developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome,” the federal agency said.
