Daughters of the American Revolution Annual Christmas Party, Prospective Members Invited

Darien’s Good Wife’s River DAR Chapter will hold their annual Christmas party at the home of DAR member, Winifred and husband Tom Lom on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 9. Members, prospective members, husbands and significant others are invited. Please RSVP to Vice Regent Tracy Root for attendance and food assignments. At this time, Good Citizen Chairman, Kim Kiner will present the Good Citizen Award to a community-minded patriotic senior from Darien High School.

John Lochtefeld, son of Nancy and Tom Lochtefeld, is the recipient of the 2018-2019 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. An annual presentation of Darien’s Good Wife’s River DAR Chapter, this award is given to a Darien High School senior who best exemplifies the qualities of patriotism, citizenship, dependability and service to community. — an announcement from the Good Wife’s River DAR Chapter

John was selected to receive this award by the faculty and senior class at Darien High School. He will receive his award, pin and certificate from DAR Good Citizen Chairman, Kim Kiner, and Regent, Katherine Love, during the group’s holiday celebration hosted by Winifred and Tom Lom. A leader among his peers at Darien High School, John is a member of the Community Council where he serves as Vice President of the student body and is also a member of the Best Buddies Program which fosters relationships between students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the student body.

Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will tour Darien’s Mather Homestead on Monday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. The Mather Homestead at 19 Stephen Mather Road was built in 1778 by Joseph Mather, the son of Rev. Moses Mather, an outspoken Patriot and a graduate of Yale Divinity School. During the Revolutionary War, the Mather Homestead was considered a “safe house,” where Patriots could store their valuables.

Members of the executive board of Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met recently at the Darien Library for their annual planning session. Plans were finalized for “Cocktails by the River” on Thursday, September 13, hosted by Carol Wilder-Tamme and Bill Tamme at their home on Red Rose Circle. Members, prospective members, spouses and significant others included. The 125th annual CTDAR Conference will be held the weekend of Oct. 11 to 13 at the Courtyard Hartford Marriott in Cromwell.

Connecticut State Daughters of the American Revolution Vice Regent Christy A. Hendrie will be the keynote speaker when Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosts its annual luncheon/tea. This event will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 27 at the Country Club of Darien, 300 Mansfield Ave. DAR Chapters from Stamford, Wilton, and New Canaan have been invited to attend. The CTDAR recently celebrated its 125th anniversary. Mrs. Hendrie will seek to inspire members to become involved and engaged in local, state and national DAR projects through an understanding of the DAR and its objectives.
