Last Day to Order: DCA’s Flats of Flowers Sale Ends at Noon

Shop the DCA’s Annual Flats of Flowers Sale: Choose from a variety of flowers and colors for your summer garden by May 13 at 12 noon. — an announcement from the DCA

You can choose from impatiens, petunias, marigold, vinca roses, alyssum, salvia and snapdragons, all sourced from a local grower. All orders must be placed online. Flower pick-up is Tuesday, May 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. at the DCA, 274 Middlesex Road. Flowers are $25 per flat, with 48 plants per flat, from a local grower.

Tickets for the DCA Spring Tea Go on Sale at 9 AM This Day — and Tickets for This Go Quickly

Get ’em while you can: Be on your best behavior when you sip at the DCA Spring Tea — but scramble hard starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 to order your tickets. Tickets for DCA teas “go quickly,” the DCA says. The Spring Tea takes place on Saturday, June 8. When you succeed, save the date, and don’t forget — and tell your friends to join you. National Audobon Day Nature Walk at the Darien Community Association’s Nature Trail

In honor of National Audubon Day, join local friends and neighbors for a community walk through the DCA Nature Trail and explore the Bird Sanctuary. The DCA supports the National Audubon Society’s mission of building a brighter future for birds by preserving and protecting their habitats. The 4-acre Bird Sanctuary was developed 10 years ago to provide a place where birds can thrive. If You’re Going … Meet at the trail entrance (behind the DCA building) at 9 a.m., Friday, April 26, for the walk and stay for coffee and delicious pastries provided by NEAT afterward.

Congressman Jim Himes to Speak at Darien Community Association Friday Afternoon — a Free Event

U.S Rep. Jim Himes, a Democrat representing Darien among other towns, will speak at an “afternoon reception” at 3 p.m., this Friday, Jan. 26, at the Darien Community Association. The event is free, but registration is required. While the event wasn’t mentioned in the original announcement for the DCA’s ongoing speaker series on technology and geopolitics, the announcement for Himes’ appearance says it comes from the Global Issues Speaker Series Committee. “As we learn more and more about how emerging technologies are impacting us, Rep. Himes has agreed to provide his thoughts, on ‘What Is the Role of the Federal Government?'” the announcement said.

How Technology Is Changing the Face of War: DCA Global Issues Lecture

“How technology is changing the face of war” is the theme of  the second lecture in The Darien Community Association’s Global Issues speaker series. Zack Cooper, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a lecturer at Princeton, previously worked at the National Security Council and the Department of Defense. The theme of this year’s series is “2024 Technology and Geopolitics: What’s Ahead?” Ticket buyers may attend in person at the DCA or virtually, online.  Every lecture is followed by a Q&A session with the expert.
